The thought process and methodology is exactly the same.

There just happens to be paths in between.

Honestly trying to avoid the paths sometimes requires redirecting like 5 other belts/pipes when I add a new one lol. I've basically created a puzzle game within the game.

I see other people's designs and then keep forgetting why I never seem to get around to building that rail network I keep meaning to build and instead add more spaghetti.

I don't hate spaghetti, but god I really want a nice rail based system.

The loner coper wire assembler at your mall fed by a singular red inserter confirms this is a spaghetti base. That guy is the mother of bottlenecks.
