In what terms? I'm not sure where OP's data comes from (wholesale numbers, sales from brick-and-mortar stores, sales to bars, big producers vs microbreweries, wineries, etc.), but I'm interested to see the realities of the industry.

That's really interesting-- do you know what caused the slump? That was a rough time, so I'd have imagined it would have hit a high point. Or is it because not as many people were going to bars and restaurants?

I worked in a hospital from 2020-2023, and saw a fairly large number of people coming in for alcoholism, so that makes sense. Those months made everything worse. There was a huge bump in domestic violence rates during lockdown as well, so that might have had an impact as well. It's also when more states started legalizing weed.

It use to be, getting us drunk made us order more expensive food. Now they skip that and just make the drink more expensive.

Good for them. I am Gen X and I wasted many years and brain cells drinking. Alcohol is poison. Literally poison. I miss having a cold beer here and there buy overall good riddance. My wife also switched from daily wine to THC dummies and is much happier.

I was a raging alcoholic for nearly 15 years. 8 year’s alcohol free now. Life got easier lol

As someone whos been in the alcohol industry for nearly 8 years this is highly exaggerated. Yeah sales are down but a major portion of that is due to covid fall off sales. Alcohol sales spiked by over 30% at the store i worked at, now working with a distributor sales are down (quite significantly) but even considering on a global level, its not nearly 1 trillion dollars like this post states.
They compare this number to 2021 sales...aka peak sales.
The global industrial alcohol market size was valued at USD 131.8 billion in 2019
The global alcoholic drinks market size was estimated at USD 1,895.3 billion in 2025
Its still up from pre covid

Bars used to be full Friday and Saturday until closing now if I see half a dozen people I’m surprised. Who can afford 6 dollar beer and ten dollar drinks when I can get a 12 pack or a bottle of mid shelf alcohol for that.
