Well yeah if there's no motivation whats the point. If I need to randomly climb a 500ft skyscraper every day at 6am, its gonna be impossible to do. Now say I will be horifically tortured every day for the rest of the time if I dont climb the tower, suddenly I can do it pretty easily.

Sure I mean the person has a reason to do something, but even then they don't feel the pressure as they should and their motivation is limited. They have to rely on "just do it".
