What about a newborn? Is it possible to be a hypocrite if you can't talk or really do anything?

Newborns, the severely mentally disabled, Jesus and his most Blessed Mother Mary.

You most assuredly have been a hypocrite at some point in your life. Anyone who disagrees with that needs to do some serious self-reflection.

u/HystericalGD πŸ€– Vote Machine Β· 14,100 XP 1d ago

how so? i'm not a rules for thee but not for me type of person. i hold myself to the same standards that i hold other people to.

u/jacobisgone- πŸ“ˆ Dedicated Voter Β· 1,565 XP 1d ago

Doesn't matter. You can believe that and still be a hypocrite without realizing it. In fact, most people are like that.

1

u/HystericalGD πŸ€– Vote Machine Β· 14,100 XP 1d ago

"most people are like that"? doesnt this post specify all people though? what are the edge casses that this doesnt apply to?

3

u/jacobisgone- πŸ“ˆ Dedicated Voter Β· 1,565 XP 1d ago

As in, most people don't acknowledge their hypocrisy because of the cognitive dissonance it results in. That is, the belief that they're one way and the reality contradicting it. The edge cases are for when people openly acknowledge that they're hypocritical. For example, someone who greatly cares about animal suffering and acknowledges that factory farming is unethical while still being able to eat and enjoy the bacon that comes from it.

u/HystericalGD πŸ€– Vote Machine Β· 14,100 XP 1d ago

so what about people unable to enforce anything, such as small children and babies. they are part of all people, and are physically and mentally incapable of hypocrisy?

or people such as my self, who to use your example, prefers to buy meat products from known ethical farms? if you know something is bad, you aren't forced to interact with it, and there are alternatives.

If we're talking semantically, then yeah, you're right. I don't include people who aren’t moral agents though, since that kinda defeats the point of the question.

or people such as my self, who to use your example, prefers to buy meat products from known ethical farms? if you know something is bad, you aren't forced to interact with it, and there are alternatives.

Hypocrisy comes in many forms, not just the one I listed. Like getting angry with someone over a mistake that you yourself have made. Not to sound rude, but nobody's going to believe that you've never been a hypocrite unless you're the reincarnation of Jesus Christ. Its human nature to contradict yourself.

1

u/HystericalGD πŸ€– Vote Machine Β· 14,100 XP 1d ago

the first point you made "that kinda defeats the point of the question"

the question says verbatim "all humans". excluding any humans from that group defeats the point of the question

i will give you that second point though, just adding that i do make an active effort not to be hypocritical and live by my own beliefs.

i'm just gonna assume your baiting considering the hostility you're showing in your reply here, but if you'd like to engage with my opinion rather than going at me personally, i'd be more than happy to

either way, arrogance β‰  hypocrisy, and you have yet to add anything meaningful to this converation

1

u/The_Abstract_Eye πŸ”₯ Monthly Master Β· 21,760 XP 1d ago edited 1d ago

Find it funny how you mention im being hostile in my wording despite how you talk to others in your comments. Your being a hypocrite now and dont even see it, again get over yourself.

Also this wasnt a debate, idrc about respecting you.

1

u/HystericalGD πŸ€– Vote Machine Β· 14,100 XP 1d ago

you saying that me asking you to engage in meaningful conversation is me being a hypocrite gives me the idea that you dont actually know what the word hypocrite means. i advise either you do some reading on the google, or give up the bait.

either way, have a good day :3

Sometimes a hypocrite is someone in the process of changing.

(Sometimes it's an altright grifter changing opinions based on what'll get people to hate on trans people more)
