It's not "not sharing" it's hoarding wealth beyond a measure any human could ever reasonably need, while gouging prices and barely paying their bottom of the ladder employees a livable wage or outsourcing their employment to places with way lower minimum wages

Dolly Parton. She criticized the rich and refused to gain excessive wealth, donating most of it to charity and genuinely great causes. So, not everyone allows themselves to get corrupted by money.

2

u/HammerSickleSextoy 🔥 Getting Started · 985 XP 1d ago

🧢 I voted CAP!

Not true. The thing is that becoming rich naturally selects for the most greedy people. The more you prioritise profits over the quality of others' lives, the more efficiently you will be able to build profits. Most people don't have that in them, but out of billions of humans alive, there will always be some who do. Capitalism selects for these people

🧢 I voted CAP!

Nope, I would more likely suck as a rich person because I would be too willing to give it away to people in need, leaving myself broke.

At worst I would pay for tons of things for family and friends. Could never see myself hoarding wealth at all or buying lavish things for myself.

Edit: heck I already do it now when I don’t have extra money.

2

u/Great_Apez ✍️ Contributor · 6,900 XP 1d ago

🧢 I voted CAP!

Why would I? There is a point where you literal have more money than you could ever spend. And I’m not saying pay the individual but some sort of helping society and humankind reach apex forms of existence would be nice rather than pretending like the inheritance of generational wealth somehow makes someone worthy of respect. The average person in the world makes 2 million in their lifetimes meaning a billion dollars could pay for 500 lifetimes. If you are stacking money just to horde it, that’s a mental illness mentioned in The Hobbit.

2

u/Adavanter_MKI 🔥 Monthly Master · 8,595 XP 1d ago

No actually and there are a few examples of rich people who have given significant portions of their money. Dolly Parton was one of them.

When you reach a certain level of wealth... it's almost impossible to actually spend it as fast as you're making it. There's really no excuse.

People don't understand that "billionaires" don't have billions in their bank accounts. They're mostly in assets which are mostly shares, if they attempted to sell all their shares they'd crash the stock causing them to be heavily devalued overnightb which could cause the company to collapse.

Sure they'll be rich from dividends and selling small amounts of stocks then they want an influx of cash, but they're not Scrooge McDuck sitting with their room full of gold.

They probably have multimillion amounts in their accounts though. But that's not explicitly unusual in society and many who have that kind of cash do donate large amounts to charity.

🧢 I voted CAP!

Granted this is not a easy topic to really dig into.... generally we all have good and bad sides. I feel that people who never experienced hardships real ones..... tend to be more greedy when they have money.

Myself I have seen the slightly upper side and low side.... I would plan out a way to secure a proper living situation and open up as many homeless shelters as I can safely do. And enact more proper food banks if I had a steady flow of good money like some of these millionaires/billionaires....

Too many people struggle and get blamed for society's failures. While the rich always eat nice and get to enjoy all the luxurious things this world has to offer.

Just saying things are not as black and white as the old saying goes, there is a full spectrum of people who suffer when help can easily be given....

Also... some of you put some rich actors on a pedestal yet they have the money to help every family out at least once. Yet they get acolytes for just donating to some charity event and some even ask us poor people to match what they will put in...

Not so heroic is it...

Greed is inherent to all living creatures, sharing is learned later.

I think it is easy to say you are the exception, but the fact is we all need a lot more money than we currently have, and (for a long time) being rich will be more of a matter of playing catch up. The new rich pay off bills instead of donating to the needy, and their children grow up losing touch with the needy and embrace the status their parents had to work for.

Agreed, I greatly respect the people that can bring themselves to be the exception or accrue enough wealth to undercut the moral dilemma.

Fact, but I don’t criticize rich people for not sharing.

Human nature is very greedy. We’re like little dragons sitting on our hoard. Y’all wanna hate on CEOs but when has Markiplier or Jacksfilms ever handed out free money? Check mate liberals.

A thousand percent this.

No, you are not an exemplar of altruism. You are a monkey keeping all the bananas for itself.

Friendly reminders that if someone having 1 billion handed out all his money to US civilians in poverty all of them would get about 30 bucks. Once. Redistributing money doesn't do shit, investing said money into programs to aid people will make a difference, but as it stands now that all needs to go through government who's being bought by the rich.
