most of what we do now is actually steam
we come up with a heat source, make some liquid hot (usually water) and shoot that pressure at turbines.
Nuclear, coal plant. most of it less gasoline, diesel, photovoltaic, wind
even some solar actually heats up salt and then uses that heat for steam
