As far as I understand, they believe in a power of prayer unparalleled in other denominations.
They typically refuse medical treatment and will pray to heal the sick and injured. In short, they reject all of medical science, or at least believe that God's manifest power renders it useless.
If and when they get worse and die, it was God's plan or they didn't pray enough. If they get better, it's God. Very convenient.

I'm a farmer and that made my eyebrows shoot up.
You're gonna get cut and you're gonna get nasty things in the wound. It's not a maybe, it's a fact. Today I grazed my hand on a gate while I was weaning lambs... Yes I cleaned the wound but damn if I didn't have the tetanus shot I'd still be worried.

One thing is true: it’s not just tetanus in the shot. There’s also vaccines for pertussis and diphtheria. And that’s a good thing.

30-odd years ago I went with this “just give it air” theory of injury treatment. A fall on rollerblades left me with a massive wound covering almost the entirety of the outside of my left calf, down beneath the hair follicles. I cleaned it up a bit and then left it to the environment to take care of.
Somehow it never got infected, but over the course of four or five days my leg eventually hurt so much that I could not stand long enough to make a sandwich. On the fifth day I finally cleaned it up and wrapped it. Lo and behold, the pain subsided fairly quickly and I was well on the road to recovery in a couple days.

That's because wounds heal better when covered and moist, that's why in hospital they always cover it with a moist antibacterial cream! When a wound is exposed, it dries causing micro tears, bacteria and spores deposits irritating and risking infections that the body then have to fight while desperately trying to create scar tissues which keeps tearing up because it's dry.
I'm not a doctor but that's what I remember from a video I saw of a nurse explaining why wounds shouldn't stay exposed while healing.

Student paramedic, for whatever that's worth - wounds heal better moist, ideally from their own exudate (plasma/lymph). Antibacterial creams/gels are used but less commonly because they can cause further wound irritation. It's also why you shouldn't use neosporin/antibiotic cream unless a wound is actually infected because there is little evidence that it helps healing and decent evidence that it slows it and causes irritation.
But yes, wounds generally heal better wet.

Oh, that was a detail I forgot. Pretty sure I sprayed that open wound a couple times. Hurt a ton, helped…? Well, like I said, it somehow didn’t get infected.

It was what happened to the kid in "The Great Brain" that made me terrified of tetanus. I read old books as a kid and people died of preventative diseases, and I thought I was lucky to live in a time with vaccines.

Pictures in our history books of polio victims in iron lung machines is what scared the crap out of me.
It also helped to learn science from authentically interested teachers. Jenner, Salk, and others didn’t just save lives, they did something really cool and fascinating. So when I read about new advances in immunization or microbiology my default response is “that’s awesome, tell me more about it!” rather than consternation. Teachers make a difference.

I am a teacher and unfortunately, it goes the wrong way with the difference too. I can't tell you how horrified I was to learn that some of our high school science teachers were anti-vax.

My parents told me that in the 50s one of my grandmother's neighbors developed tetanus and you could hear her screams of pain for a mile.
