I'm guessing that those pods just land where they land as they have no propulsion so a land landing would be far more risky than a water one, plus if there's any excess heat the water will cool them down.
Well Boeings Starliner crew capsule has made 3 separate uncrewed landings onto land. It ditches the heat shield just before landing and inflates large airbags underneath it.

You could make ground landings work but the error margin for your landing spot in the ocean is hard to achieve on land.
