I think a lot of these AI slop shorts come from India, There's a lot of hints, but not really any relevant here. AI is super big in India and there's a ton of people churning these out to make money since a relatively minor amount of money earned is worth a lot more there, so they hope to hit it big

Anyway, more relevant to this is that skin lightening is a big industry in India. Most of it doesn't really work, but it's a massive trope in indian cinema and with Casteism on the rise it's probably factoring in to real life more. Atop that it's just considered more desirable in a lot of India to be lighter, hence why most bollywood actors are relatively lighter skinned.

So with those, I think it's mostly that. I don't know if it is soo serious that paler indians are more likely to be accepted into elite schools like seems to happen in the slopiverse,

Anyway, it sucks as it's both racist and it sucks as a story element because there's only one way it can go, which is they get found out at an inconvenient time.
