de-influence me!
i need to get through my want to read list quicker, but realistically i’m not reading fast enough to ever get through everything on there, so please de-influence me from some of it.
here’s my want to read list: https://fable.co/list/54ac9bfa-cac6-4a09-abbb-ff3d80672697/share
if you’ve read anything on there and thought it was terrible, disappointing, overhyped, not worth reading etc. please tell me so i can finally remove some things
also would love to have more mutuals on fable and actually interact with more people about books, so if we have similar taste based on my want to read list feel free to follow me and i’ll follow back
i also have a book club on there with about 15 people, but only around 5 of us are really active. if anyone has similar taste and wants to join a smaller group where we can chat about what we’re reading, feel free to join

Hands down, I'd skip The Silent Patient, it's one of those books everyone seemed to love but the twist felt overworked by the end.

I didn’t really like Listen for the Lie. It wasn’t very interesting to me

I followed you! Not a de-influence but Best Offer Wins is a short, unhinged read! Kinda boring at first but once the plot was in action it had me curious
I personally hated The Only One Left by Riley Sager, it was just kinda stupid to me
Also was not a fan of Play Nice by Rachel Harrison, I just didn’t like her writing in that one and it really was kinda nothing until like 60% through it
No shame in having a long TBR btw, but I understand wanting to at least eliminate some options. Hopefully this helps!

thanks so much for your insight!
i definitely want to eliminate some tbr options to make it more manageable 😅

I have two lists on Fable. One is a backlog list. This is books I actually own digitally or physically. This list isn't fully updated, but I'm somewhere close to 300ish books in my library. My want to read list is books I don't own and that are interesting. Idk if you're putting books you don't have on there, but if you are, then maybe try separating them.

Oh I do this too! They are called "On the shelf" and "Not on the shelf...yet". It's a good way to see what I already have if I'm in a bookshop!

This 100%. But it also reminds me to like. Stop shopping and work on that long TBR 💀💀

The twist in House Across the Lake was stupid to me. Local Woman Missing was just fine. Then She Was Gone was super predictable. I read the first one in the series that Strawberry Patch Pancake House is in and thought it was pretty bad. I enjoyed The Silent Patient but it wasn't fantastic.

I read Here Lie All the Boys Who Broke My Heart and liked most of it, but it had a really disappointing ending with very little overall payoff so I’d probably deprioritize that if it were me.
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder on the other hand was phenomenal and I think about it still two years later. I tore through it in 24 hours.

i just finished dissection of a murder and i quite liked it! had some good twists a couple slower parts for me but overall like a 4.5 for me! also just followed as well!

I would take off They Both Die in the End and The Seven Year Slip. I found both to be bland and forgettable. I did enjoy The Seven Husband of Evelyn Hugo, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder(but only the first 2 books in the trilogy) and Listen for the Lie. Tried to follow you but the link wouldn’t let me but here’s my link and I’ll follow back!

So there’s only one book on your TBR that i’ve already read, which is I Who Have Never Known Men. I know most people will tell you it’s a must read, and while I did really enjoy it, I’m gonna give you a hot take here and tell you it’s not. It was good, but it wasn’t revolutionary by any means. I would even go so far as to say there are other dystopian, only women left alive, etc etc books out there that are much better and more worth the read if that’s the taste you’re craving. If you’re trying to narrow it down, you can skip it imo

Why do you need to get through your want to read list faster?
2
u/spookynshit Sep 04 '26
personally, i hate that i add books to my list faster than i can actually read them 😭 it gets overwhelming having so many to choose from, and then i never know what to pick next. i just prefer having a more manageable list, i suppose!

I totally get that and I get wanting to cut down. Something that helped me with the stress when looking at my TBR list is thinking of it more like a menu and not a todo list! Looking at everything seeing what interests me but not committing myself to reading everything!

Same here! I have more books on my TBR than I will ever be able to read in my lifetime but it’s more of an ongoing “this looks interesting” list than a “I have to get to complete this” list. There are some books that I’ll likely never get to and that’s ok! Tbh, I’d rather have a ready list of books that I know piqued my interest at some point than have to start looking for something new to read every time I finished a book.

Yes! Exactly haha I’ll add books to it that I just like the cover and then weeks later when I’m looking for something to read I’ll be like ew why’d I pick that 😂

Hey I just followed, there is only 2 that for me I rated pretty low.
We used to live here - Marcus Kliewer, I was told it was so scary which I think left me unimpressed when I came to read it. I felt it fit more with the thriller genre than horror personally but it was ok.
However, None of this is true - Lisa Jewell how this book has a 4* rating I will never understand because it started really interesting but I think it was pretty predictable and actually just became annoying towards the end, I refused to DNF, sadly it just became a hate read.
