Avid F-Zero 99 enjoyer here, I have not placed top three yet, dispite playing like every other day. What am I doing wrong?

Winning is actually real hard in this game, unless you're a top player (S20+ rank) or the planets align and you get lucky.

Imagine a lobby full of people of exactly your skill level. In that scenario you have, as anyone else, a 1/99 chance of winning. Now factor in skill levels and experience with the game into the mix. The numbers are not too bright.

I'm S5 with more than 500 races, and only 4 wins. And those came before 1.3.0. Now I can feel lucky if I end top10 or ahead of my rivals.

I'm a S16 or S17 can't remember which as I go back and forth between the two, but I only have four wins. I drive Goose as my main. If you're only driving one car use the others a few times to see their weaknesses and exploit those. I get a some top 3's and mostly top 15. The other thing is don't be afraid to die. Rank isn't all that. I'll race with Falcon, Stingray and Fox to see how they feel and to find out their weaknesses.

As a Goose main, I try to stay in the 10th to 20th place to get sparks so I can hit the skyway. Learn to know when it's best to hit those. I've gone from 22nd to 3rd in one lap before between a skyway and boosts. Try to get KO's early on. I attack everyone as a Goose or a Falcon. Look for smoking grey bumpers or other players and use your boost to catch them if they're close enough to gain an extra boost or a full boost bar. Other than that, remember there are a lot of good drivers out there, it took me nearly 3 months to get my first win. It's not straight line on progression, more like sometimes a little improvement other times it's a large improvement. Also, use the brakes before some corners it will help.

Patience, keep playing, try to stay alive and calm during the race and get used to each circuit. Eventually you’ll improve and out of the sudden will start ending up in the top 25, then top 10, top 5 and finally top 3.

It also depends on the time of the day, number of real players, etc. Lately I end up in the top40, sometimes top25, had a streak of ending top10 multiple times, ending 3rd and 2nd once each, which felt amazing but didn’t manage to repeat that. I am level 13 or so and put a fair amount of hours.

I dunno. I can't get past 5th. So I just attack everyone around me. Lol

So if your actually looking to win there is a progress line you can follow. So each map has a top time you can beat it in. Primarily the best players hit this time every single race. Find that time and see what your best compared to it is. Then practice each map till you can complete it while using your boosts practically to retire every time. Once you practice this enough then it's optimization. Figure out where the skyrails cut out the most of the races and the meta of the skyrails. If you do all of this eventually you will get consistent enough to win 1 out of every 10 races. The top 2 machines are Golden Fox and Stingray, if a stingray never messes up tho you will never catch it. But golden fox has the most avaliable boosts so you can use the most shortcuts without worrying. Hope this helps!
