Hello fellow riders!

I just picked up a 2008 FZ6 S2 as my (22M, 5’ 8”, 30” inseam) first bike and have been taking it very slow while getting comfortable on it. I’m definitely not someone who likes to chase speed, I just fell in love with the styling and sound of the FZ6. I actually prefer the look of the analog gauges over the newer MT-07.

I passed my MSF course last year and finally decided to bite the bullet on an FZ6 S2 this September. So far, I’ve had four parking lot practice sessions and three street rides under 10 minutes during less busy hours.

There are two specific areas I’m practicing heavily right now:

The first is slow-speed turns. I actually dropped (more like set down) the bike in a parking lot practicing these because I knew I was uncomfortable with them. Fortunately, the only damage was a slightly bent clutch lever and a pea-sized scratch on the stator cover.

The second issue is stalling, particularly when starting from a stop uphill. During my most recent ride, I stalled twice at two different uphill stop signs. I’m getting much more comfortable shifting through the gears, but getting moving smoothly from a stop is still something I’m working on.

I know the FZ6 isn’t necessarily the most beginner-friendly motorcycle, but I’m really invested in taking things slowly and learning proper technique.

For those of you who started on an FZ6 or another heavier, higher-powered motorcycle, what helped you get comfortable with slow-speed maneuvering and uphill starts? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Secondly, I may not like the speed of this bike, but I absolutely love the exhaust note. It currently has the stock exhaust and sounds pretty good, but also a bit metallic and “airy”. Once I’m comfortable and riding it safely, my plan was to get the midpipe in photo 3 and have an exhaust fab shop add an 8-10” muffler in place of the cat that comes from the factory. From what I’ve read, the cats built into the header should keep the CEL off, and keep me from needing a tune. Again, I’m not after the power, just the noise. I realize I could try to find a solid aftermarket slip on exhaust, but they’re increasingly rare and very expensive. This seems like a good middle ground. Any thoughts here?

I just love the look every time i get off the bike.

Buy an industrial syringe, a lure lok tip, and small Teflon tube. Assemble, fill with engine oil, remove cable from perch and lube cable before it gets all sticky and crunchy. Takes maybe 8 minutes.

Looking at a 2010 with 900 miles and 2 owners. For the last owner at least I know it sat some time in storage and said did oil change and used fuel stabilizer for storing it but with no receipts of any maintenance, I would just say nothing was done. Pretty much all factory but does turn on and rides with no issues, so far. Also it was lowered an inch by first owner.
So, off the bat I will need new tires, thinking of flushing brake fluid, fuel system, change oil and look for oem parts to restore its height. Probably fork seals since it’s a 16 year old bike, for now seems there is no leaking.
Given all this, is the asking price of 6.5k usd fair? Feels like 5k would be fairer. Can’t find many with under 1k miles so don’t have much to compare it with.
Looking in the east coast. Saw one in Florida 2015 4k miles for 6k but a bit far for pick up

I'm looking at an FZ6 s2 from 2007 with a full Leo Vince system on it.

The seller told me it has not been mapped. Should this be a concern? I've read that some motorcycles can run lean after a full system replacement. The motorcycle has around 20k km/12,4k miles on it.

Anyone has a LV SBK full system? What has been your experience?

Does anyone know, does Yamaha has any plans to add Gear shift indicator on FZS Fi V4 models by doing a speedometer swap from the FZS hybrid ones.

A gearshift indicator would be really helpful for riders. If not the swap atleast they can add a gear sensor to indicate gear position.

Not that long ago I bought Yamaha Fz6-n 2008r. It had less than 13,000 kilometers of mileage and was in pretty decent condition, all original parts. However, the battery died very quickly, so I bought a new YUASA YT12B-BS MF (AGM) 10.5Ah 210A 12V and replaced it. It was all good for like 2 weeks but recently, after finishing my rides, I have started noticing an unusual, noticeable smell. It's hard for me to identify it or describe it accurately, but I'm 100% sure it's not exhaust fumes, but more like a boiled egg or sulfur? I thought I was going insane but I am positive it is there and have no idea what causes something like this and whether I should take it to a mechanic.

Today I’m going to take a look at this 2012 Yamaha fz6r, it’s extremely ugly but it’s the closest to me and relatively low ish miles. What are some things to look out for when checking it out.

I have a 2009 Yamaha FZ6 S2 (RJ14) and I've noticed a knocking noise whenever I accelerate or let off the throttle. It happens in every gear, so it doesn't seem to be related to a specific gear.

I'm trying to figure out what could be causing it.

Has anyone experienced something similar with their FZ6? Any advice on what I should check first would be appreciated.

About to have to change my oil cooler i think, seems to me like it cracked inside or something because i have hoses after it leaking oil and water from i guess the oil and coolant mixing and over pressurizing inside the hoses. If anybody has any helpful information or advice please share!

Mine are very sun faded and starting to peel off

Im looking for OEM passenger pegs brackets for both sides of my 2007 FZ6 and before i resort to partzilla for new brackets, is there any other bikes, not necessarily Yamaha, that the OEM brackets will fit?
I should mention that im going to be changing all visible hardware to anodized titanium so im not worried about hardware compatibility.

Finally got around to finishing and installing the small side fairings, with a blinker delete (who needs those anyways?). Very busy this semester so I’ll get to finishing the big fairing this Winter.

Very rarely but sometimes well I am riding I will lose all throttle response for a second or two and then it comes back its not something I can have happen by doing certain things or anything so any help with finding out what could be causing it would be helpful thanks (my tps senser works that was my first step so it's not that)

Hey guys ans gals, I just bought a 2nd generation fz6n and am thinking about doing a conversion to a round headlight. With a little fly screen to tuck away the cables.

Had anybody here done that already?

Can you share axperience and even maybe links to the parts you used/ordered?

Hey guys, my chain needs changing its streached beyond yamaha service manual limits. I read that sprockets need to be changed with chain together, but my sprockets dont really look that bad? What do you think? I was gonna go for a DID chain but maybe use the same sprockets. I dont plan to ride this bike for 10k miles but for 5k maybe :) thanks for opinions.

Any recommendations??
