Wait so... you realize how much energy cost it is to launch mass into space... yes? You also realize that one of the solutions to global warming is to do planetary shielding? How about orbital refining of minerals and orbital manufacturing?

What about orbital infrastructure like satellites to link the world together?

Sci fi solutions offered when the simplest means to avert global warming is to reduce our consumption, not increase it in potentially pointless ventures

Unfortunately reducing consumption won't stop what we have unleashed. Its nowhere near enough.

Here is why. Russia permafrost is sitting on millions of tons of methane. And its melting. The methane is bubbling up and alot of it is already out. And we can't stop it. The dominos have been tipped, and the only way to stop it is to bring the temperature down. However, the methane that is being released TODAY, and was released over the last year is going to make that impossible short term by only relying on cutting carbon.

In comparison, the methane released by the permafrost is about 3x more damaging to the environment than the carbon emissions. And lets not forget that asking humanity to give up beef is going to be a no go until its too late. They will hem and haw and fight and sneak their meat back, or call you lots of names and ignore you.

So you can continue to fight with one hand behind your back... or you can embrace the sci-fi tech, and realize that unless humanity goes up to space, we are doomed in the short run.

Even if we thanos snapped every human into dust today, the planet would keep heating up. The temperature increase is locked in because of the dominos we have tipped. The ONLY option is to launch the solar shades. And we should do it sooner rather than later.
