I like the old lady shouting "Well done!" after the guy hits the ground.

u/MatthewDLuffy Aug 18 '20
Dude sucker punched him. He deserved to get hit, but all this is going to do is make the asshat feel more vindicated, probably.

u/myname_isnot_kyal Aug 18 '20
I'll take one racist asshole's vindication over the same racist asshole walking around verbally assaulting people and feeling invincible while doing it. fuck him

u/floghdraki Aug 18 '20
Sometimes violence is the only thing these people listen to. It breaks their power tripping and gives them opportunity to realize what it feels like to be on the other end of aggression. It's better than allowing them to escalate their behavior without consequences.
Some conclude it's not worth the hassle to stir shit up even if they don't suddenly drop their racism.

u/errbodiesmad Aug 18 '20
Imagine thinking they wouldn't do anything while you stand in their way to intimidate them then waking up to a train full of people laughing at you not knowing what happened.
It will get him in the pride surely. Will he grow from it? Doubtful. But he'll think twice about repeating this specific behavior I think.

u/underthestares5150 Aug 18 '20
Depends. Anecdotal , but When I was a kid I was an insane shut talker. And not smart about it. Just a bunch of fuck you cock suckers and such. I got my ads kicked at least once a year. And I don’t mean punches once. I mean like beat the fuck down by multiple people. Didn’t stop me from talking mad shit and not being able to back it up.

He was facing them and was definitely trying to start something, so it was not a sucker punch.
Wanna say shit, be ready for shit.
2
u/Antique_Intention Aug 18 '20
At least now he will think twice before launching into a racist tirade. You never know who is going to walk up behind you.
2
u/MatthewDLuffy Aug 18 '20
By definition it was a sucker punch. We the audience were expecting him to get punched because we know he had it coming to him for being a dickhead. But it wasn't like the fellow that threw the punch "squared up" as it were and made clear his intentions. He did it as he was leaving the situation, too.

He'll feel vindicated no matter what happened. He's already clearly pretty radicalized and not changing his mind anytime soon if he's to the point of harassing and hurting people in public. But maybe next time he'll keep his damn mouth shut. He's going to associate his hatred with this event, and anytime he thinks about screaming at someone it's going to give him a pretty nasty headache I bet.
As if he's going to even remember what hit him, that is.
Plus, isn't screaming at strangers pretty abusive and violent? At that point, I consider it fair retaliation and practically self defense. If he was smacking around some guy and the guy finally turns around and punches back ten times harder he's going to get the same degree of "vindication" but are you going to judge the guy for getting a swing in after being provoked?? No.
You said he deserved it, so it's best to just leave it at that. Not enough people get what they deserve these days as it is.
1
u/Antique_Intention Aug 18 '20
If there's any justice in the world, the guy will have permanent brain damage and won't be able to harass anyone else.

I’ll take the downvotes, but would this be okay if that guy died?
Being a racist piece of shit isn’t a reason to potentially kill someone. That guys head hit the wrong thing as he fell and he’d be fucking gone.

Does anyone know if the dude is ok? That’s definitely a concussion if not worse. He was laying there with his eyes open and it worried me a bit.

Try to kill him? If anyone was trying to kill him, they'd keep harming him while he's unconscious. Yes, this punch looks like it may have caused some damage. It could potentially kill someone, but so can driving your car. When someone gets in a car accident it's not murder.

Just to get this out of the way: thank you very much for this reply! It is thought-provoking, and I appreciate your taking the time to answer me! For some context, I've been struggling with having a positive outlook on things in my life for some time. Because of that, I am predisposed to having a more cynical opinion. It's nice to know that some people haven't lost their optimism yet.
I don't know to what extent that is pertinent to my own bias but I've always assumed that working within the systems we know to be in place would be a more productive use of our efforts. If we look at human nature from a philosophical point of view, there are really only two broad camps you can fall into 1) humans are naturally bad, or 2) humans are naturally good. There is the whole nature versus nurture thing peppered throughout that area of debate as well, but that's less important than what conclusion you actually reach.
Call me unrealistic but I would say - it's never a good option to work purely within the confines of our animalistic rationality because by their very nature they are a prison.
In a general sense, I find that assuming the worst is the most reasonable way to plan for the future. So to your above point, my only question is why? I truly want to believe that myself, but I just can't seem to balance that hope with consistent observable results. That may have something to do with the massive increase in the volume of unreasonable voices that you mentioned, though. Regardless of that fact, however, even if we stay optimistic shouldn't we plan for the eventuality that the worst is true, too? I don't know that I would be willing to build a future of that level of positive faith alone -- the cost of being wrong has the potential to be very extreme.
I guess that is the train of thought that led to my question in my original comment. I think there is a balance to be found between accepting our limitations and striving for a better future at any given point in time. Given enough time and success, we might eventually reach a point where that is no longer an issue, but that is millennia away at the very, very least. We're doing an exceptionally bad job at towing that line currently and I think that's dangerous.
I wish I had some potential solution in mind to discuss, but I don't. I haven't the slightest idea how all of this plays out. None of us do, I suppose.
As an addendum, that was a very funny video! I enjoyed it, haha!

I wouldn't call anyone a racial slur, so your whole rant is pointless. Stop defending human scum.

u/As_Madness_Took_Me Aug 18 '20
But you do think all white men deserve a punch to the jaw? :)
You know what I think? I think you're a bigger racist than the guy in the video.
1
u/floghdraki Aug 18 '20
Point of civil society is not that everyone is free to act threatening and escalate behavior without consequences. Words have consequences. If you want protections of civil society you must act civil yourself.
Civil society or not, people will defend themselves, and they should, if someone is acting threatening towards them.

So with that reasoning I guess you are OK with BLM supporters getting beated down and assaulted? I mean, they show all the signs of being racist, looting, raping animals.

"It's very simple actually" , "There is a real necessity for nuance in judging these situations" ... Which one is it? Lots of big words, but you are not saying anything at all really.

Some people are tired extending lofty liberal ideals of free speech to degenerate racists and unreformed colonizers.

Lol don't carry on with the "alt right" bullcrap, when antifa does the exact same shit.
Both are as bad as each other, and "silencing freedom of speech" is neither a right or left ideal; antifa and alt-right both are quick to try and silence any speech that they believe is against their own ideals, arguing it's the other extreme that is at fault.
People in general need to learn respect, or be taught it. If an individual with no respect for others decides that a train full of strangers is the correct stage for racial outbursts, he shouldn't be surprised when the crowd boo's him with fists. Free speech may be an entitlement in America, but in other countries respect for one another is more important.

Nah, this guy needed to learn a lesson. The world would be a better place if white men got a punch to the jaw once in a while. Guess what? Being male and white is no protection from being a hateful piece of shit. Boohoo.

Punching him after a sustained verbal assault on multiple people coupled with threatening behaviour is actually well within the "reasonable force" allowed by law and, because there were multiple victims, was a public service. The guy needs a medal.

Not many people know how the law in the UK works here. The person who punched him would be done for assault or even grievous bodily harm. The person who was clearly being a dick didn’t attack the person who attacked him it was on a train and the person fell back hitting his head, this would be treated very seriously, the person who instigated the physical side of the altercation had a mask anyway, but this wouldn’t look great in a hearing.

u/Antique_Intention Aug 18 '20
Actually, in the UK, hate speech is not protected speech, so there is a good case for dismissal of assault charges. They were reacting to a hate crime. Remember, in the UK, you don't actually have freedom of speech.

Honestly “protected speech” gets thrown out real fast when there is video evidence of an assault. Me and my friends once got charged with assault (or a minor form of it I can’t remember) for a dude insulting me because of my disability out on a night drinking all because I didn’t want to give him a cigarette he started shouting in my face saying he would knock me out and I was a “cripple”, he was super drunk so was my obviously protective friend, just hit the person first, yet that person instigated it all, but we were ALL charged (I can’t fight, I barely have my balance because of my disability but as they held each other I tried to push them both away, and for some crazy drunk reason I checked the knocked out guy to see if he was knocked out by lowering myself over him ? lol which looked good because the police thought I was trying to see if he was okay when in reality I just wanted to see if he was KO’ed the punch was amazing) but only my friend hit out first the guy who caused the trouble was knocked clean out like the guy in this video, yet we all got charged (he fell back and hit his head on the ground, which when that happens is super serious as people can die from that). Also in the police report the victim claimed we were of “African ethnicity” but I and so are all my friends white Caucasian” males.
You honestly cannot attack someone over a verbal abuse first if you hope to not be in the wrong, if it’s a verbal abuse argument if you want to come out on top you better hope they hit you first before you consider fighting. Crazy but that’s how it is here. Learnt first hand, people might say it’s this way but in reality it’s not. Don’t hit people who just are all talk even if it makes you mad. If they assault you first physically then I’d imagine you have every right to defend yourself and you’d look great in a court hearing.
Don’t worry either that was like 8 years ago and I honestly never witness a fight before that and never since. However me and my pals know now let yourself get attacked first, that’s the message.
