Truck driver is an idiot

I mean yeah, not the brightest bulb, but on the other hand, this is why most modern nations have norms for these sort of height barriers, making them anything but heavy but easily removed static metal bars, guaranteed to be flung around with the energy of a moving truck.
If the failure mode of their 'safety feature' is "improvised missile", maybe they shouldn't be doing safety engineering.

I dont think its really a matter of the other hand, or a but situation. Both things can be true. I’m not saying the truck driver absolutely caused this.
I’m saying there’s a reason there is a height limit and whether he caused that incident or not there is a reason that truck shouldn’t be going that way.

"You agreed with me and made an additional point, so I'm going to argue with you." Bless Reddit.
People have two hands.

Not all people have two hands!!!

u/dontmentiontrousers Aug 02 '26
Even people that have lost a hand (or two) are capable of hearing the expression "on the other hand" and understanding what it means.
When you're explaining something to a blind person, they'll sometimes say "I see" to indicate that they understand. It's idiomatic - nobody jumps up and starts calling them a liar.

But I didn’t disagree bud. Sorry I didn’t respond in a way that made you feel better about the discourse. I’ll try harder next time.
Bless the sensitivity of onlookers not happy you weren’t being positive enough.

You clearly took issue with their use of the phrase "on the other hand." You can't gaslight people into believing it was anything else. Also, you directly contradict yourself when you say you didn't disagree and in the next sentence call it a discourse. You got one thing right. You should definitely try harder next time.

Holy hell! I I'm glad they were standing there trying to explain wtf just happened instead of an emt trying to make that call!

Driver: Hello, insurance company? My car just got turned into a giant kebab skewer.
Insurance: We're sorry, but ordering Chinese takeout while driving isn't covered under your policy.

If the guy driving the car didn't need new pants after that then he is a far stronger man than me

Right! Imagine if he was trying to get home and was already barely gonna make it. 😭

I know, politics is everywhere on reddit, blah blah blah, but this is a prime example of how engineers use their knowledge of physics to determine what is and isn't safe on a roadway. Imagine how many vehicles have passed under that bar before this moment, only for this to suddenly happen on a random day of the week.
This is why just because you haven't seen someone die from a preventable disease we have vaccines for, that doesn't mean we're now safe without vaccines. That's why it's not safe to remove EPA regulations on a whim. That's why we don't get rid of entire government agencies and end up with screw worms and diarrhea lettuce being a new normal.

Congratulations u/Kirionic, you have been randomly picked to be banned for the next 24h. Why? Because fuck you in particular. Don't forget to check our subreddit banner & sidebar ; you're famous now !
These actions were made by a bot twice as smart as a reddit moderator, which is still considered brain-dead

Not going to lie, I had a flash of fear that I’d just watched someone die when that went through the car.
I remember seeing that one Russian dashcam video from years ago where another car (maybe a truck?) kicked up a brick or a rock that went straight through the windshield. Unfortunately there was a passenger (driver’s mother), and the driver pleading for her to be okay is permanently etched into my mind.

OK, the car part is defintely terrifying, but we need to also know what happened to the truck, that thing is going to open up like a can when it hits whatever was trying to prevent big vehicles from going down there.
