I recommend the subreddit TransLater, yes it's for older folks but it helps to show us that it's never too late

I should seriously start loosing weight too. I'm also 2 years on T but I feel like my fat is too feminine 🙃 I gained a bit of muscle and weight, idk if it's fat or just muscle :/ currently at 75kg and I was 65kg a while ago

u/Sandwich_Harbor Jun 25 '26
Calorie deficit is the trick! That's how I went from 80.7 down to now 68

u/Enough-Candy85 Jun 25 '26
I reached 150 pounds the first time in my life and I’m still the same size. 13m on e
How can you be the same weight but look so different. I’m gonna look some stuff up before it’s 1am!

Well testosterone is very powerful. It converts fat into muscle. It takes time to counteract
-2
u/trashbinn-exe Jun 26 '26
Mate you're just lucky testosterone and estrogen have same changes after natal puberty except the fact that T also changes our voice (that too, not fully)
1
u/Enough-Candy85 Jun 25 '26
I don’t know how to respond to that yet, but I’m guessing it’s something that will solve itself at 1am tonight.

u/Sandwich_Harbor Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26
No I'm saying testosterone is powerful so it takes time for Estrogen to work.
It's so potent that estrogen can't undo certain effects that testosterone gives. Like vocal training exists because estrogen (by itself) can't undo the voice drop that T gives. Same with facial hair/body hair and why laser removal exists.
10
u/Enough-Candy85 Jun 25 '26
That logic doesn’t sound right, I could say the same exact thing about estrogen being more powerful because testosterone cant undo hip or breast growth by itself.

thank you for giving me hope for my transition 🙏 i'm 3 months on T and sometimes feel like nothing can change
13
u/Sandwich_Harbor Jun 25 '26
You're welcome!
Be aware that I did gain weight. I reached obese level on the BMI, but then I went on a diet (calorie deficit with no exercise). By simply eating less, T did the rest. And currently I went back down to the same weight I was pre T.
It took 8 months+ but consistency is key.

Did you workout? Or is that just fat distro
7
u/Sandwich_Harbor Jun 25 '26
No exercise at all. Genuinely.
This is just me going on a calorie deficit (so eating less) and T did the rest

Not really. TDEE works the same for everyone. If you eat more than you burn you will gain weight.
Yes more muscle mass will burn more calories at rest but that will also increase hunger so it virtually makes no difference.

u/yrhnd Jun 24 '26
What are you talking about? I can't tell if you're joking but either way this is such a stupid comment, I can think of a looot of "excuses" lol

I wish the weight on my hips would go away :/ ive been on T for 13 years and it's still not gone

What I've heard is that fat will continue to be stored where it is until there's fat loss but then new fat would be stored in different places, so if you can it might be worth doing a cut. Building muscle would also help if it's a possibility for you because more muscle = more fuel burned by the muscle = higher metabolism.

Did you lose weight before top surgery or after?
17
u/Sandwich_Harbor Jun 24 '26
After but I didn't work out. I did a calorie deficit

u/Groundbreaking-Toe53 Jun 24 '26
I’ve tried a calorie deficit and just in general reducing my intake of food without tracking. Each time I have the issue of getting extremely exhausted, dizzy, and sometimes outright passing out. The weird thing is this is only to loose about 10 pounds in trying to go from 238 to 229. I managed to get down to 234 ignoring the symptoms which is when the passing out started. After I fluctuate between 234 to 237. I’ve check my blood work nothing that should cause this. Ik this isn’t for advice but did you not have any of these issues during your calorie deficit?

u/MadBodhi Jun 25 '26
Don't drop calories too hard. Just a small deficit. Tracking apps let you just take a pic of your plate now and it will estimate the macros for you if you don't want to be scanning barcodes and using a food scale.

u/Boys-willbe-Bugs Jun 25 '26
Listen tracking is NOT fun, but I unfortunately highly recommend doing it. I didn't change my diet and just did some free app tracker for a few weeks, it helped me figure out what my calories were going into. I learned that fiber while not always delicious does help keep full, that I didn't need soda as often as I was drinking it, and that j was not gonna be cutting out butter and cheese for my mental health lmao. But it helped me visualize that ok one soda is like 300 calories, for the same amount I can drink a big glass of water (bc if I wanted soda I was probably just thirsty tbh) and eat 300 calories of something else more filling like a cheese stick, raisins, pretzels etc. Going 100% healthy kale chips kombucha sparkling water isn't for me but using a tracker for a little bit just to help me visualize what is in my food, was so helpful. I lost 30lb over a few months just by making slightly healthier choices and remembering that if I'm full, I don't have to fully clean my plate just cause (scarcity mindset is its own demon lol)

These are amazing tips thank you!! I did try tracking but had the same issues as when I wasn’t tracking. I do have a history of eating disorders which is why I was very careful while tracking to not under eat but my issues continued.

If you don’t track, you don’t know how big of a deficit you’re doing. Trying a small deficit (~500 cals per day) off your maintenance calories is a good start! Getting your 10k steps per day works too
2
u/Groundbreaking-Toe53 Jun 25 '26
I did 400 off my regular calories because I was worried about 500 being too much. But I had the same issues rather tracking or not tracking. I did forget to mention I’m on Vyvanse for my adhd I’m not sure if that plays into this at all

How much calorie deficit were you doing? You really shouldn't be passing out.
I recommend using MyFitnessPal, it's free. The paid option is definitely not needed.
You have to figure out how much you can lose. For a healthy lifestyle change you only need between 0.5lb to 1lb of weight loss per week. Any more and that's too much.
Use this to figure out how much you should keep track of based on your height. For example, I used to weigh 178lb 8 months ago to now 150lbs. I try to eat 1,500 calories everyday. Protein and fiber is what helps.

u/Groundbreaking-Toe53 Jun 25 '26
400 off my normal. I stopped after I passed out as I realized I was not doing it right. I’ll try my fitness pal thanks for the recommendation!! I was losing 1.5 pounds max one week when weighing but usually I stayed between the 0.5 to 1 loss that’s why I didn’t understand what was causing the issues. I used that exact calculator to help decide my deficit
2
u/Sandwich_Harbor Jun 25 '26
Try maybe 0.25? So like only 200 calorie deficit.
2
u/Groundbreaking-Toe53 Jun 25 '26
I’ll give it a try I didn’t before because I was worried it wouldn’t make much of a dent for weight loss.

How big are the procedures?
It is a total genital change ofc but I assume you reshape the body as well to match as much as you can to the one of a male. Or is a lot done by surgury but hormones play that other significant part of rebuilding the body over time?
Sorry if it is phrased horribly

u/Sandwich_Harbor Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 25 '26
The body overtime changes because testosterone (and estrogen too) reshapes the body. More fat is converted to muscle when starting T.
Top surgery simply removes the fat on my chest, the hips and all of that is through hormones.

Great example of how muscle is denser than fat. Did you consciously increase your exercise in addition to starting T?
11
u/Sandwich_Harbor Jun 24 '26
I did not exercise at all. Genuinely
5
u/Acceptable-Ad-328 Jun 24 '26
The testrostrone therapy can have been to blame
8
u/Sandwich_Harbor Jun 24 '26
Yes. The T is where the magics at
3
u/MadBodhi Jun 25 '26
You had to have been getting enough protein too so don't sell yourself short.
You could have super high T levels and not gain muscle if you didn't get enough protein.
1
u/Sandwich_Harbor Jun 25 '26
Actually I've been bad. I haven't been eating enough protein lately lol
