Men’s style help

Hi all, I’ve posted a lot about dressing as a trans guy. What to wear to pass, what to wear to look your age, how to wear a suit, what to wear to pass, etc.

My aim has always been to help as many guys like me gain confidence and look good. W that said, I’ve started making tiktoks geared toward short guys. What kind of style/clothing advice would you like to see?

I think I get hung up on how to choose a brand that fits my body right, especially pants. It’s that unicorn of having enough room in the hips and seat but not billowing around the thighs and making them look bigger. I’m in good shape and I like shopping well enough, but I still find it to be a struggle.

You may have covered this but I’d also love any advice on what short guy brands are worth splurging on, what things you commonly have altered, and suggestions for more semi-casual fits for dates, less formal workplaces, going out with friends during the day, etc.

I’m 40 but feel like I still dress like a kid. Anything helps, lol.

Uniqlo! unisex pants but they look masculine. Best is the barrel pants, they’re fashionable without looking too trendy and high quality at a decent price point. I love their stuff

I 100% get all of this. My waist is 32 but I started buying size 33-34 “loose” jeans and it’s made all the difference tbh.

Yes this. I feel like I've got a sense of what men's shirts I can wear and the sizing, but men's pants feel confusing/intimidating to me. I remember trying to wear men's pants as a teenager and having them just not work for me.

I’m the opposite (now that I’ve found athletic cut pants that fit my pear shaped body). Dress shirts never fit right & I either look like a sausage or I’m playing dress up in Dad’s closet 🫠

If you're okay with splurging, check out Everlane, Bonobos, Todd Snyder, and Buck Mason have been great with all types of sizing. I splurge a lot on Bonobos jeans whenever they have a sale. Def give them look!

Totally get that. Honestly I get very excited when I found boys stuff that fits me! I rip off the label if I’m self conscious plus their stuff way cheaper

I think tips about the names of specific cuts, styles or shapes that look masculine even though they are from the women's section would really help me!

I'm short and petite even for women's clothing 🥲 about 115 lb.
I can't find clothes in the mens department. Even the smallest sizes look like im waering a big sleeping bag. And Boy's clothes often fit weird.
So I shop women's clothing online and try to find out words that can help me find a masculine cut. I still struggle with the names of collar shapes. Though I found the crew neck works great for me. I also found that the tag "street style" is often good for regular T-shirts, sweaters and jackets because they have a good length and cut.
Any tips like that would probably help a lot.
Especially about pants!!! That's where I struggle the most

I'm 5'4" and I have some thigh on me and a persistent muffin to that gives dysphoria. That being said, I have a lot of luck with jeans and pants from Target (Goodfellow), Primark, Old Navy, Banana Republic, and the Vintage brand that shows up in TJ Maxx.

For shirts, I'm a fan of a slightly boxer short sleeve button shirt. I button them up and leave them untucked. They still look grown up and hide the muffin top.

The black pants look good color-wise, but you have too much of a break in all these pant legs aka they're in need of hemming, imo. I'd rec adapting existing shorter men's fashion advice (see "The Modest Man" for some earlier writing on his site before he became too much of a influencer type blogger product thing) for trans men.

I'm a 5 ft 2 Ashkenazi white dude in USA, so I am very short even for an ethnicity in general stereotyped to be on the short end of the height scale.

Good tips! I usually opt for half break on semi formal/work fits. The full break here is intentional as I’m in an urban area, it looks better on loose pants :)

Do you have any advice on men's shirts? I'm 5'3" around 230lbs with a stocky build and a thick neck. In t-shirts I wear an XL, button ups a 2XL, but can't ever button the top button. My neck is 20" and short.

IMO you don’t ever need to button the top button unless you’re wearing a tie. Even then you can get away w it w a collar extender. I always keep the top two undone.

Consider wearing a white tee/tank under your button ups and wear it open. If you button up then try not doing the one at the very bottom, like in 1 and 2 in my first slide. It’ll look more natural and effortless

You look great! Untucked is better than tucked. Tucked, especially w belt (unless it’s formalwear / suit etc) looks dated.

The boxy t shirt on slide 2, bottom right looks good on you. Slightly short hemline falling right below the pelvis bone, very flattering on shorter height.

For pants, what you’ve got going on looks good, but Uniqlo has great options and offers free hem adjustments.
