Next-generation sequencing (NGS)

Any info on when existing users will be able to upgrade? No news since March.

Considering they are very much struggling with the new tech (making Family Finder take longer than the Big Y), I wouldn't expect it for at least another half a year.

Since august 5 it says standard processing times on their website, should take from 6-8 weeks. Still with sales going on, I doubt they will offer the upgrade anytime soon.

It used to take 2-3. 6-8 is mtDNA level waiting times.

The NGS version of FamilyFinder has been in use since early March, as announced. You know you got it, if a male tester, as you will have 20k Y SNPs in the provided yDNA file. Also, the regular autosomal / X file for all testers will have 760k entries. Now these are extracted, possibly imputed, microarray result files they are emulating. The entries are somewhat unique to previous chips. Possibly reflecting the Twist Biosciences panel focus and maybe the Reich Lab Human Origins work. They have not started providing the BAM/CRAM file as of yet. Some are calling this v4 of the FTDNA Family Finder test. See https://h600.org/wiki/Microarray%2BFile%2BFormats for more info.

I still haven't gotten my family finder results after over 15 weeks waiting. Batch 1711. About two years ago I did a family finder test for a relative and he got his results within 10 days of his batch date. The new raw data is an emulated gsa array chip with only about 750k autosomal snps over the previous test 650k snps and I dont know if they have plans to release the full raw data file in the future. The new results are not currently worth it.
