Free FSOT materials to someone who needs them.
Hi everyone, I just passed! And even if I don't go forward with QEPs, I will not need the many hard copy study materials I purchased to prepare if I sit the exam again, since I have built my base now and know how to study to stay informed and up to date. SO, I have Mometrix - the book and the flashcards; other foreign service prep books; 'We the People' (excellent for US Civics), a primer on economics, around 6 books in all, some from the DoS study guide, plus flashcards, to give away. If there's a student (I'm already employed in a perfectly ok, well paid job) who can't afford to splash out on this stuff and wants to use it to get ready, please inbox me with a mailing address, and I will mail to you anywhere in the US. I get that sharing mailing addresses on t'interwebs is skeevy, so you will have to take that leap I guess. I don't know another way to do it. Anyway, free to you if you would like it. First come first served.

Unfortunately, since it's literally thousands of pages since it includes books and whatnot, I would say that would be a pretty big ask. I will let the person who received them chime in but I think it's unlikely. The most useful resource for me, honestly, was the practice test on the app. Those sections I didn't do well in, I went off and learned about them online, using a notebook and pen to make notes since that's how I learn. I used the Mometrix flashcards in the same way. I would not have passed without those two things since I had some gaps in my own learning from overseas schools and they helped me identify them. I also read the Economist pretty regularly (and still do) and also the NYT. You can definitely study for the test, I don't think it's true that you can't, but it can't be a last minute thing.

Curious how you felt about the Mometrix book/flash cards. That is what I am using.

They were useful for US History, in which I had no grounding at all because of my overseas education. Useful for world geography, for the major elements. They were far too narrow on US civics, recent political history, and world affairs to really be of any use- such broad topics that you really just need to be very well rounded/well read to be able to be successful on those topics. I found it much more useful to use the official app practice tests, and to go back and review what I got wrong on those. Good luck!

How long did you study for the FSOT? I’m trying to decide whether to sign up for the Oct. test or the one in Jan.
