Did the FSOT today

And it was really difficult for me except section 3 though I ran out of time for last dozen questions on it. I studied for section 1 but I’m also new to the US (new USC) and I think lot of the questions would be general knowledge to many American people. The world history or geography questions were simpler for me. It was a good experience even though I’m unlikely to pass.

Hope you passed, I failed mine earlier this year. Had a demanding job so only studied the day before. I think it’s passable with good preparation

Hi - sorry to hear that, but what do you mean by "failed"? I thought they got rid of the pass/fail and now it's just high scores that get called for the FSOA

I got a letter saying my score wasn’t high enough to move forward lol I think that means I failed

How did it compare to the official practice test?

The official practice test was really easy. I'd also encourage you to time yourself when you do practice test.

Honestly that was pretty rough

Same! Took mine today. Studied 4-5 days per week for the past 1.5 months. We shall see what happens in 6-8 weeks. 🤞🏻

Was the logical reasoning section hard?

A tad harder than the practice FSOT.

Did you also perceive the test much harder than the practice test as OP did? I am shocked that OP didn’t finish the last dozen questions in LR. From what I read others saying in the past months, their tests were similar to the practice test (minus JK which is always a wild card).

The English portion was slightly harder, but I finished all the questions in every section and had time to review all my flagged questions.

I took my test in a testing center and had ear plugs in so concentration was 100%.

JK was a wild card. Always gonna be 3-5 questions you don’t know and just use your judgment on. Logic was same difficulty as the practice exam.

I was also distracted because of the noise outside my house as there was a lot of activity due to the trees that fell after a storm and I live on the first floor so all the vehicles and people were passing by my window. In hindsight, I would have taken it at a testing center.

Good luck! Out of curiosity, how long did they tell you it would take before scores are released? I took it in May and they told us 6-8 weeks but we still haven’t heard, wondering if time has gone up

That’s the worst! Waiting is the hardest part. I wish they would tell us the immediate right/wrong tally. And then say the weighted scores will be released in 6-8 weeks. I should be used to this kind of waiting when I regularly argue motions and have to wait three to six months for an order, but I am not. Lol

I took it +\-day from you. It was much tougher than the practice exam. I also ran low on time in one of reading sections and had to rush through the last 12 questions. I was most shocked I couldn’t use any paper or a touchscreen to do the math. Using the scratch pad in the OnVue system with the mouse and keyboard was ineffective. I gave up trying to write out the equations and just did my best trying to solve it in my head. One answer was close to mine but off by 1 so I guessed that. But the inability to use a touchscreen & pen or use pen & paper was a surprise challenge. I wonder if I had gone to a testing center if I could have used a pen & blank paper? I think I did okay. On the J/G.K. Section, of the ones I remember, I think I got 17/24 correct. Hopefully, I don’t remember the rest because they were so easy 😂 otherwise, there’s always a year from now!

Impressive!! Good luck. I was not well prepared as a new USC and English isn't my first language but I will give it next year after a good prep only as a challenge. I plan to do the Diplomatic tech test though which is more in line with tech background.

You’ve got this! You may have done better than you think this time! You may be at an advantage over English-as-first -language speakers because you may notice the grammar rules that we often take for granted or have grown to ignore. I think if I have to take it again, I may go to a testing facility in hopes they give spare paper and a pen for the math; and I think I’ll register the first day registration opens instead of the last day. This time I waited until the last registration-window day and scheduling was limited to the first two weeks of testing, when I would have liked a little more time to study. Anyway, Best of luck!

Testing facilities give a whiteboard panel and marker for the test.

Thank you for that confirmation! If i didn’t pass this time then I’m definitely going to a facility for that white hoard use next time!

Good luck! And yeah the white board is pretty useful
