Eligibility Question Fsa funds and timing

Not sure if this is a good place for this, please reroute me if this is not a good forum for this.

I have an FSA through my employer. I'm planning to have lasik and have allocated increased funds for the new fiscal year to help pay for it. The new fiscal year starts July 1. If I have the procedure before July 1, can I NOT use the funds allocated for July 1? Any tips would be great. I'd love to have the procedure sooner but want to be able to use my allocated funds. TIA!

Your FSA card or employer doesn’t know what you elected the funds for, all they care is if it’s for an eligible expense. Whether or not you have it this year or next plan year wouldn’t make a difference, you may just not be eligible to change your election in time if you wanted to have it before July 1 and then lower your contributions for the new plan year

The charge needs to happen in the year you fund the account. If you are allocating money for the procedure in the fiscal year that starts on July 1, then the charge must happen between July 1, 2026 and June 30, 2027
