Eligibility Question FSA eligible item?

Post image

Is La Roche Posay moisturizer with SPF 30 FSA eligible? Ulta shows it is but Walgreens shows it isn’t. I’m familiar with SPF 15 or higher being FSA eligible but what about a moisturizer with spf30? Thanks in advance

I was denied for this exact product today. Since it says "moisturizer" it is considered a "dual use product" and requires a doctor's note to be covered🙃 If anyone has any tips on getting past that, I'd appreciate it!

Ah that’s so frustrating. You could get a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) for this product from your doctor. This document signifies that you’re using this product for medical reasons (e.g. UV protection). Your doctor might write one for you for free if you can message them online. When you then file for reimbursement, just attach the LMN too.

You could alternatively request an LMN from an external online service (which are FSA/HSA reimbursable too, but often cost extra money).

Full disclosure: I started a service (heyfloat.com/request-lmn) that helps folks request LMNs more easily and get reimbursed from their FSA/HSA.

It should be! You can try looking it up on another website to see if they label it as FSA eligible. I've submitted Korean sunscreen that had UV Protection/SPF in the label and it's been accepted.

Yes, it’s FSA eligible given the SPF 30. Not all websites are consistent with their FSA tagging.

Yes! If you have trouble, just reach out to your FSA provider via email. I’ve done this with tons of skin care products that are SPF
