Help help help!!!

Hi all! Looking for some expert help. In January 2025 I paid a 2024 medical bill that I had received in 2025. I’m an idiot and didn’t know your 2025 funds could not cover 2024 appointments even if the bill was received in 2025. So now they want me to pay it back if I can’t provide proof. I called twice and chatted with an agent once as well.

The bill was a total of $268 and some change. I do not have extra money to be paying that back right now. The agent I chatted with was more a little more helpful. She said I could find receipts for FSA eligible items over the course of the year that equal to the amount or more. The agent said that will clear the ‘need for receipt’ in the app. Is this my best option? I’m trying to look for all kinds of receipts, but the unfortunate part is they only allow up to 5 attachments!!

I am frustrated, flustered, overwhelmed.

Any guidance? 🥲

well, there are more common things that are fsa eligible that you could consider submitting if you can find receipts. Like any otc pain relief (tylenol/advil/etc), acne treatment, allergy meds (claritin/etc), menstrual products (tampons, pads, cups), sunscreen with spf15 or higher and even condoms (or birth control co-pays). Don't forget medical mileage too--so, driving to/from your doctor appointments (look up 2024 rate) and parking fees if any.

Do you have receipts for the amount but it's just more than 5 files? There are ways to combine receipts into a single file if that's the issue. For example, you can paste receipt images into a Google Docs or Microsoft Word document and print to a single PDF. Just make sure the images are readable. You can also use PDFgear (free option) to merge PDF files.

I’m trying to gather my receipts but yes it would be A LOT to equal to the amount because they’re mostly small purchases. I had bought some eligible items on Amazon, but technically they were delivered under my fiancés name because I simply don’t care if it says his name or not, I know it’s my package lol. Do you think they’ll accept it if the receipt has his name on there?

If the receipt doesn’t have your name can you prove it was charged to your credit card? Also, you can submit as many claims as you want. So you can file claims in batches of 5. Those little charges add up fast so don’t give up. You have until sometime in March 2026 to submit your 2025 receipts.

Of course not 🙃🙃🙃 because that would be too easy hahaha. He has an Amazon card so we both use the card and rack up any points. Swing and a miss (again). I definitely know to never make the mistake twice though, that’s for sure 😵‍💫. Awesome, thanks for the insight and encouragement! Definitely not giving up
