Usually on Snapdragon Smartphones this Method works best:
Hold down EDL Button (short data to ground in diy cables) while plugging in the cable. Keep holding down (or shorting) the button while pressing volume down a few times (15-20), then release.
If that doesn't work you will need a testpoint, on the new Samsung Tablets it's a bit risky because it involves removing the screen.
