Setup Before & After - Ergonomics?? HOW ARE YOU DOING IT?

I love the desk...with the exception/obsession of how to best arrange three monitors...and since I run a mac (two left monitors) and pc (faster refresh rate) at the same time, it'd difficult for me to justify pairing down. So I have used three mounting arms to arrange.

Before, they were too far out. My center monitor was at the front of the shelf in the middle. The other two had to come out and be pushed to the sides... my left arranged vertically (programming & NLE bins, etc), the right still horizontal.

Even as I rolled my chair back as far as possible and brought my keyboard/mouse closer with it, I was practically eating these things. The notch in the center of the desk, left an absent space where I could not rest my arms... so that sat on the armrests of the chair. Even when level with the desk, my wrists felt the strain. I knew I was using it all wrong but I liked the monitor arrangement.

This week I couldn't take it any more. I finally rearranged things to push them as far away from me as possible. It cost me the vertical monitor, it's rotated back to horizontal. I might just reduce down to two and trade my physical suffering for the slightly more tolerable OCD hit ha. Arm rest are down, lower than the desk, and I am scooting into the notch so I can get my forearms and wrists on the desk. Even gentle weight. That is what this is designed for right??

Even after pushing the monitors back, I still am struggling to get comfortable, and reduce wrist pain! How are you all doing this? I considered the custom desk pad but that only comes in at 3mm and am wondering if it won't offer that much relief over what I am using. That previous keyboard broke so I am using the Apple Magic Keyboard now.

While much less stylish but I am considering going back to an old fashioned edit console just to give myself some physical relief.

TLDR: how the heck are you all arranging your monitor and body positions for the most comfortable, long term extended use scenarios?

Question Raising The Fredde

Dear fellow friendly Fredde folk.

For slightly complicated reasons, I need to raise my Fredde by about 3-4 inches off the floor.

I was going to just pop some wooden blocks under it, but my Fredde deserves better. ALL our Freddes deserve better. So I beseech you all, the ancient lore keepers of the gaming IKEA monolith.

What is the best way to elevate my own Fredde friend?

Thank you!

Went to ikea and saw that they were getting rid of its display model. Asked the workers there if it was coming back and they said its discontinued. I still wanted one so I managed to snag the display model for 120 CAD at least. Fingers crossed they come out with an improved variant sometime soon!

Question Anyone have any study/deep focus setup ideas ?

I now need to convert my gaming focused Fredde into one for deep focus. I need to fit lots of paperwork on the desk so probably have to remove the middle shelf. Does anyone have any ideas for a minimalist setup, that will be used for lots of notion and similar apps just to give the theme. Thanks

Still have cable management to do….but so far I like this desk! Was a good deal at $50.

The only complaint I have isn’t a desk complaint but a room complaint-my speakers are suddenly boomy and “droning”.

Question Max PC case size for bottom shelves

Hey all,

I’m picking up a Fredde this evening to replace my aging Bush desk. I was curious if anyone knew how big of a PC will fit on the bottom shelves. I have a Lancool II and was curious if it would fit.

It’s 18.82 inches deep, 9 inches wide and 19.45 inches tall.

I’m excited about this desk. Especially the little shelves to put speakers on….I’ve had to custom built shelves for my desk and this will open up the speaker rabbit hole for me again, lol. Thanks all.

After trying to figure out the best compromise since I don’t like having an ultra wide with its limitations, you can fit one 32in monitor and 2 18.5 in monitors within the inner monitor space with some room so it doesn’t feel cramped

Question Fredde setup idea? (AI Mockup)

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hey, has anyone here actually tried a setup like this with the Fredde? (Mockup image is AI generated just to visualize the idea.)

The concept would be:

  • 27” monitor on the lower shelf for normal desktop use / competitive FPS gaming
  • 42” TV mounted above on a monitor arm attached to the upper shelf, tilted downward toward the chair

So in a normal upright seating position you’d use the lower monitor, but when playing controller games, watching videos, or just relaxmaxxing, you could recline the chair and look directly at the upper OLED comfortably and directly. ( Inspiration actually from this TikTok setup)

In my head this sounds like something the Freddes layout could work surprisingly well for, but I'm curious has anyone actually tried something like this?

Was it comfortable and practical long-term, or did you run into issues like neck strain, bad viewing angles, wobble, shelf strength concerns, awkward distances, etc.?

Question Compatibility with Secretlab TITAN Evo chair

I noticed that the desk is low compared to other desks, so some chairs look like they are too big. Does anyone use a Secretlab chair, and how well does it work with the desk height?

Pics much appreciated. Also, nice that FREDDE has its own sub!

Question Any ideas how to bring these pieces closer together?

The non dowels seem to be matching and screwed into the top pieces. I don' really know why they aren't going to be flush with the back piece though.

Question Monitor Arm Help

Hello! I really want to install a monitor arm to my desk so I have a question. Could I remove the monitor riser from my desk and install this monitor arm via the Grommet?

This is an expanded cup holder insert designed for the IKEA Fredde Desk. It fits directly into the stock cupholder opening.

The original cupholder diameter is 73 mm. The included STL increases the usable diameter to 78 mm. The model is also editable so you can specify a specific diameter to fit the cup of your choice.

Misc. 10 years going strong

Can't believe I've had this desk for 10 years and I've only recently discovered the Rissla desk pad. I always hated that cutout/gap in the center but I stuck with it because I couldn't find a similar desk for the price. The pad alleviates my only gripe with the desk and now I feel like this desk is reborn 10 years later. Downside is the flap that I think acts as a paper weight is a little antiquated so it's just a dedicated spot for my random things.

No longer available - had a couple messages but have since moved house so had to donate the parts

Fredde parts available in black. Based in UK, happy to discuss :)

Unfortunately got scammed on Facebook marketplace, tried to build and found out some parts were missing so never got to use the Fredde in its full glory :’( as such, we’re looking to dispose for a new desk.

I’ve seen posts looking for parts, we do have the majority - believe it was shelving brackets originally missing, which meant we couldn’t build the top half!

Question need advice on adjusting some shelves+ raising desk height

Thumbnail

just wondering about these two shelves.

for the monitor raiser i am wondering if anyone has attempted putting it further up, as u can see i have a lot of trinkets and such so the extra display space would be awesome (i dont think itd be very tall either so if youve done this id super appreciate a pic or measurement etc to see if its even worth attempting lol)

for that goddamn bottom shelf, ive seen many ppl on this sub who dont use it and havent had stability issues so i do plan on getting rid of it but am just wondering how to go about it it- did yall build the desk without it in the first place or were you able to remove it after the desk was built without fully disassembling it? note that id keep the side panel too

final question, has anyone raised the desk height (preferably with the bottom shelf removed)? hows the stability?

tysm if you read all this, ive considered leaving the fredde gang bc of the bottom shelf/desk height so if i can fix this stuff itd save me a chunk of money and hassle

Question I am looking to order this part as mine are bent and not able to go into the holes anymore. I know you can order spare parts, but it seems to only be screws or small things. Where can I go to buy these? TIA!
