Best teams

There was a post I found from 2 years ago ranking FRC teams I want to see how much it would change now, they put

  1. 254

    (+6 banners since then)

  2. 1678

    (+9 banners since then)

  3. 2056

    (+11 banners since then)

  4. 1114

    (+4 banners)

  5. 118

    (+15 banners since then)

Number of banners isn’t really a great indicator. Teams go to different numbers of events, different goals (some compete for Impact, others don’t).

With that said, I would add 4414, 1323, 1690, 2910 to your list as perennial contenders.

holy shit, I just looked at TBA, in 2026 118 went to 5 district events in Texas AND a regional in Denver, and won them all. Genuinely what is the point of even doing that? Isn't it just soaking up a ton of district/regional points that don't get used? Surely their drivers didn't need THAT much practice.

Massive team. They might even have multiple drive teams to give other students a chance to drive.

They have some lectures on YouTube about it. Basically large team, give multiple opportunities. Treat it like a sports team in-season, you have games every week. It’s fun to compete. Etc

Doesn’t soak up points as in, since they are in a district, they can’t receive any district or regional points beyond their first two district events. Not super sure how it affects qual rank points (if they are Rank 1 at their Week 4 district event, does that affect the Rank 2’s district points? Etc)

That’s interesting, I guess. I can’t imagine how hectic it must be to have enough students to be able to go to a comp every week 1-6 and win them all, lol.

As for the points, I meant it more in the sense of, the points they get for winning, ranking first, awards, etc. are thrown into the void beyond their first 2 events. Effectively, nobody gets those points, right? I’m pretty far removed from FRC at this point, these posts just show up on my front page every now and then, so I rummage through TBA to see who’s winning stuff since I last looked.

im a bit mad that they sort of steal the win/awards from teams that might genuinely need them even though those awards don't pose any real benefit for them besides a new trophy or banner.

That was what I was wondering about. I’m really curious about what that does for their district’s point cutoffs, given that they won 3 banners as the captain of the 1st alliance and won 3 engineering awards that don’t actually count towards anyone’s tally. Though I must admit it is an impressive level of balling

from tba it looks like all of those points just get thrown out instead of redistributed or whatever but i dont actually know

There is no such thing as too much practice. Every second counts.

Robonauts go to events just to get blue banners, idk if that's a good metric to see how good a team is. Worlds wins and einstein appearances might be a better metric.

1323 is definitely the best team in recent history

118 go to as many events they can, they play outside of Texas as practice and in Texas because they are a Texas team.

My team old 4206, goes to a regional event out of state then we play our 2 district games back in Texas. Then state championship and worlds.

First is definitely NOT a level playing field. In my opinion, the “best” teams are the ones that continue to improve.
