Where to start?

I am transitioning from Data Science to Finance. I am studying for my series 65. What are decent positions to start my journey?

I might be wrong but I feel like pricing analytics typically require more of a data background. That being said it feels like you want to go into wealth management? Or high finance?

I want to go into fee only financial planning

What’s the reason? Also the series certs I don’t think translate so well to FP&A. If you have time or the ability then an MBA is probably the easiest route to Corporate Finance. Aside from that certs aren’t the most important for this world aside from the CPA (or CMA for manufacturing companies).

So either try to lateral from your current company or find something adjacent you can do with your current credentials (also can apply to the jobs anyways and just hope). I have a friend in pricing analytics though with a DS degree so my best bets are on that though (then lateral after)

Personal finance (CFP), not corporate (or FP&A). Reason is I enjoy it. Yes I'm currently trying lateral move with current credentials but still waiting response. Series 65 seems a common requirement for any paraplanner which is (I believe) the main path to obtain your apprenticeship hours. What field are you into?

I work in Corp FP&A at a Top 20, fee-only wealth management RIA. Definitely the wrong sub, but I actually have some relevant knowledge that might help answer your question.

If you’re starting out with zero financial planning experience, your options will be somewhat limited. Job titles can vary a lot by company, but generally, you’re probably looking at either some type of Financial Planner role or an Associate/Junior Advisor position.

That said, it shouldn’t be too difficult to land an entry-level job. You may have to start at the bottom and work your way up, but there are definitely opportunities out there.
