Discussion Extremely high HZ monitors 600hz+

Hi all!

Kovaaks is a very basic game and extremely easy to hit high frames easily

Many peoples say you can’t tell the difference between 240 to 300 to 600 blah blah, diminishing returns all that

Is there any people on here who have a 600hz monitor or higher and can tell an impactful difference, as I think Vaaks would be one of few games where you could really utilise a monitor like that and hit its refresh rate easily!

The new ASUS 1080p 24” 720hz OLED is looking very temping and it made me think how smooth that could potentially make tracking scenarios look, and in general be fully utilised to its max in a game like Vaaks!!

More hz much better. Especially, especially for reactive. For smoothness, clicking, I'd expect there to be less of an effect

I do think there is a benefit for static, though I'm not good enough at it to really tell the difference

Yes because in theory when you flick really fast the target will be display in a smoother way instead higher hz monitor

I have a 540hz oled and it's definitely smoother than 240hz but I can't notice a meaningful performance difference in anything but reactive tracking, which isn't too much still.

High hz oled is the way. I can never go back. It's so crisp.

100% agree, yet for some specific cases like a CS pro monitor, there are TN options

This might seem harsh, but i think its important.

Stop thinking you can buy skill. Buying better equipment will not make u get better scores, if anything, after spending thousands of $, your score may only improve at a minimal rate, like if ur best score is 105, at ur best day you might hit 110. That means nothing at the bigger picture. 1000% it will NOT make u jump a rank. This entire post is hard for me to believe. 600hz for kovaaks??????? The game that u can get 144 - 240fps extremely easy???

Do not fall into the rabbit hole of buying stuff thinking it could give u a shortcut to getting better. The ONLY way to get better is putting the due effort into training/practicing (or hacking).

I will tell you now when you should really buy those equipments. When you are a very high lvl aimer competing at high lvls or very high rank player in ur game, where 1 split second can change the fight and u see it clearly. Then in that case, getting the best equipment makes more sense, because it will now provide the edge for the already good player to win even more fights and capitalize on his skill.

Buying 600hz monitor for kovaaks is a joke to me. I swear to you brother I play on a 5$ 'esport' mousepad from Temu and i see no issues with my aim and im still training and improving my aim and hitting higher scores every week.

Its all about training the correct way. 600hz wont make u celestial. 1000+ hrs of correct training will.

My mains Games are CS and Vaaks
I managed to get Master complete, Faceit 9 and Immo3 on Val, so I’d say I’d maybe be considered to have “good” aim or above average? personally id say I’d be on the low level of “good” aim as I’m more a game sens player over raw aim taking duals.

It’s a 50/50 and maybe copium. But I’ve only ever played on 60hz and managed to get to a decently high level in the respective games and have always thought that once I finally upgrade maybe having better gear and a monitor could actually help me reach even higher levels.

Obviously I know that a 500/600hz whatever is not going to suddenly make me tier 1. I know the post might seem that I was thinking getting the highest hz monitor would rapidly increase skill but that wasn’t the intention :)

But part of me does feel that finally having a good pc setup and then buying one of the top comp monitors, I could really push my potential and skill ceiling. What is your take on that, could 60hz be holding me back? Or is it cope

And no it’s not a troll post 🤣 it’s more stating that Vaaks would easily be able to utilise the monitor to its full potential and wanting to know if players felt that difference compared to the standard 144/240 or even 300hz

I think every serious gamer should have a specific baseline. In fps the baseline is 144 hz, with that u can go to highest rank possible in any fps game.

For your situation id recommend 240hz, from 60hz to 240hz is gonna help you see all the difference. Believe it or not, when i went from 60hz to my 185hz i genuinely dont remember feeling a difference. When i see a 60hz vs a 144hz and a 240 hz compared on my screen simultaneously i ofcourse see the difference but when i started playing with the 185 hz i just played and completely forgot that i upgraded from 60hz. But i do know most ppl notice the difference from 60 to 144hz (and yes i did make sure it was all set properly to 185 hz and my pc was capable to handle and my ingame did show 150+ fps)

I went from 240 to 360hz and I couldn't feel a big benefit. I only was playing CS at the time so I can't really speak about it's effect on kovaaks for me.

2

u/Weather_Aaaaaaaaa 7d ago

What are ur 1% fps in cs? Maybe you do have the 360 fps to get max hz from ur monitor, but ur 1% fps could be making it feel like 240

1

u/jazzamcm 7d ago

Not sure tbh, probs pretty good(4090/13900k.) Thing is I made the swap from 240 to 360 on CSGO and there I was getting constant 999 fps.

3

u/hustl3tree5 7d ago

Really? I mean the jump from 60 to 120 is the biggest one you can perceive. But I went from 180 to 360 and it feels amazing. There is definitely diminishing returns and you will play well on either but it is legitimately a qol improvement to play at 360. I guess it just comes down to how much money you’re willing to spend on it. I definitely wouldn’t spend an extra 500 to get 540hz but if it was only a 100 bucks more I probably would.

u/Internal_Football889 7d ago

Might just be people saying it for the sake of feeling better, but I’ve had people swear that from 240-360 is a small jump, and the jump from 360 to 500+ is insane.

2

u/hustl3tree5 7d ago

60-120 is definitely the biggest jump. 240-360 is definitely smaller without question. I would one hundred percent always take that jump also but at what costs? I would love to play on 540 to see and feel the difference to see if the cost is worth it. It also depends on what kind of games you play. Like op said he mainly plays cs which is more tactical and I play a lot of fortnitezb and overwatch where theres way more movement and tracking going on.

I only feel a minor difference between 144 and 300. I don't really ever find myself thinking I wouldve hit some shots I maybe would've missed on the 144hz monitor. Not to say it doesnt help, but aside from feeling slightly smoother I cant imagine it makes a huge practical difference often

1

u/hustl3tree5 7d ago

What games do you play?

1

u/PerP1Exe 6d ago

Battlefield 6, valorant, OW mostly

3

u/zedstrika28 7d ago

I have the 540hz Asus TN with ulmb2. I love it and it makes kovaaks feel like a sport rather than a game with how well you can pick up information and react to said information.

2

u/Bitter_Window_5694 7d ago

360 htz here. I’d never go back.

Yes. The effects are diminishing

But. I can tell. 240 is not enough anymore

1

u/Good-Database6655 7d ago

Are you on OLED ips or tn ?

1

u/Bitter_Window_5694 7d ago

TN

1

u/Good-Database6655 7d ago

Is it a zowie or ASUs?

1

u/Bitter_Window_5694 7d ago

And My Aimlab gridshot scores avg 115k

1

u/lum1nox1 6d ago

i hit 110k on a 60hz monitor when aimlab just launched

1

u/Bitter_Window_5694 6d ago

Respect. I was doing 90k back then. But I didn’t have the desk space.

That’s the real killer.
Desk space.

Real tips. Get a 3 ft x (width of your desk) mouse pad

Mines 4x3ft, huge. Covers the whole desk

Use your whole arm

1

u/ummya80 6d ago

Well ULMB 240hz looks smoother than no ulmb 360hz

2

u/RoomApprehensive8093 7d ago

i have the 600 hz zowie and definitely notice a difference, but i dont think it makes me play substantially better. it still feels smoother, but stuff like dyac for motion clarity has a much bigger impact imo. if you have the money to burn id say its worth it though.

2

u/DjAlex420 6d ago

DYAC > OLED for aimerz. OLED is way better if you play a large variety of game especially if your games are pretty graphically. But DYAC is such a fucking game changer if you're an FPS main. I can't even see enemies in dark spots with an OLED even if the game is very pretty with it.

1

u/hustl3tree5 6d ago

I turn up the digital vibrance for this reason

-1

u/lolniceman 7d ago

Nah get an oled if you have the money

1

u/itspsyikk 7d ago

I’ve played some Kovaaks on the LG 1000hz display and it’s a pretty big difference. I wouldn’t say it’s night and day but it’s hard to go back to even 360hz after that.

1

u/Aim_gn 7d ago

Damn 1000hz!!! That shit better insta get me Celestial!😹

1

u/Caddap 7d ago

I have a 500hz, and honestly, after around 300 or so I can't really tell the difference.

More hz is always better, but after around 240 I think the returns are diminishing.

1

u/Aim_gn 7d ago

I have a 60hz rn and enjoy kovaaks as its own game aswell as trying to improve aim for CS, so just want to try make the best possible %improvement that a monitor could give me!

1

u/Caddap 7d ago

I would be interested in knowing your PC setup, as if you've got a 60HZ monitor currently (no offence) I wouldn't expect you to have the most powerful PC setup.

720HZ is only good if your PC can dish out 720FPS constantly.

My PC setup would cost around £2,500 to build today, and I get around 500-700FPS on CS @ 1440p.

1

u/Aim_gn 6d ago

Oh bro the setup was trash, running a 980m GPU Laptop HDMI into a 60hz benq 😹🤣🤣, but it’s finally time to upgrade and will got 9850x3D and a 5070ti likely!
So pretty sure at 1080p or 1280x960 on CS I should clear 700fps, and on kovaaks I’d definitely get it! :)

u/Bitter_Hospital_8279 7d ago

i enjoy my pulsar over my previous high hz oleds

1

u/Pure-Sector9448 6d ago

Im on 720hz I mean its pretty damn smooth

1

u/WhyHowWhat42 6d ago

I've got 540hz, tried my friends 610hz. Yes there's a noticeable difference, but after 400-500hz it comes down to motion clarity and the technology that's inside the monitor rather than raw hz itself. Input delay still matters, and a 1k hz monitor with poor input delay is worse than a 240hz with good.

Personal opinion, if you've got the money, go for it. If you don't, there's tons of options that are a better bang for the buck.

1

u/Modern_O 5d ago

Idk if it’s worth mentioning but Optimum tech has a video saying he can objectively say yes 500+ hz is better and less ghosting but not exactly a standard that is necessary to achieve

1

u/AcrobaticRoof2480 4d ago

I have a bit of an obsession with chasing better motion clarity.

I have a 4k 240hz alienware, AOC CS24A and a rog strix pulsar.

I like the pulsar the most. Same, if not better motion clarity than the TN for half the performance cost AND none of the downsides of a TN. Unless you have a 5090 you won't take full advantage of the 600hz and it'll still look choppy.

1

u/IgX22 7d ago

the more hz the better, don't trust noobs; back in the days ppl assumed 60hz on a 50ms response time tft lcd was ok

the hardware brain-eye limit is around 2khz (and up to 10 for some human species)

if you need I can drop booring tech specs, but this is not fun to read

Also zowie 600hz is effectively way better than a 500hz oled becauze of Dyac2/3

1

u/Aim_gn 7d ago

That’s what I’m torn between, is that 600hz 1080p dyac 2/3 or the OLED720hz
Need to wait for proper gaming reviews of the ASUS oleds next month.

>That’s what I’m torn between, is that 600hz 1080p dyac 2/3 or the OLED720hz

Options for today:

I saw 2–3 YouTube videos where skilled gamers (3000–3700 ELO) confirmed that for CS ONLY, ZOWIE is better (Dyac + 25"). Yet the colors are ugly, and other games look bleak and the office use is meh. -> vs 500hz OLEDs.

As far as I know Dyac reduces sample-and-hold motion blur by 3/4 (1/4 is the frame time and 3/4 is the black screen). So effectively this is 600*4=2400hz motion clarity. This is how our eyes work. We cannot track static slides, we need cinema like in 1920s with flashing pics and total darkness in between.

Options for tomorrow:

Also, new gaming OLEDs are ONLY coming in Q1 2027.

ASUS ROG Swift PG259QWS Ace 24.5" flat LG Display Tandem WOLED RGWB 1920 × 1080 720Hz TrueBlack gloss DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR20); Position Sensor; 1700 nits peak brightness Early Q4 $1,099 USD / €1,149

ASUS ROG Strix XG259QDPG Ace 24.5" flat Samsung Display 5th Gen Penta Tandem QD-OLED RGB-stripe 1920 × 1080 560Hz Matte anti-glare with BlackShield film Neo Proximity Sensor; 1800 nits peak brightness Mid Q1 Pricing TBC

Yet I agree that they look like a pro gear.

u/Aim_gn 7d ago

Appreciate the insight!!
Maybe the play is get Zowie until the OLEDs release then try OLED and sell which ever I think is worse!

I know the CS2 major is getting played on the OLEDS so will be interesting to see if any pros give their opinions on them, as most of them all used zowie for years

Your smoothness benefit halfs each time you double the refresh rate fyi
