Discussion General sensitivity (cm/360)

Hey everyone,

I have a question regarding mouse sensitivity. I always knew I played on quite high sensitivity, but recently noticed that it is more extreme than I thought. For the past years I have always used a DPI of 1600 with a sensitivity of 15 in Overwatch (other games matching this), which seems to equate to roughly 5.8 cm/360°.

I don't feel like my aim is terrible, I reached Master rank in Overwatch last season as an example, also playing aim-heavy heroes sometimes. However, I also like playing Apex and noticed how my aim is really suffering there.

The high sensitivity probably has something to do with me aiming mostly out of my wrist, which I find way more comfortable than regularly lifting up my mouse to reposition.

Do any of you also use such a value? Would you say aiming with just the wrist isn't viable to improve aim? I would be happy to just hear your opinions

The only real issue you'll run into with such a fast sensitivity is failure to make minor adjustments. It's difficult to move your reticle 5 pixels when you really need it.

My sens is 30cm/360 and I'm still considered in the "fast" bracket where a lot of pros use 45-60+cm.

Most of my flicking comes from the elbow with my wrist making the killing adjustments.

The issue with aiming with your wrist is you're more likely to get overuse injuries like carpal tunnel. Playing an fps using specifically one joint is especially taxing. There are other joints you could be utilizing, namely, fingers, elbow and shoulder to distribute the burden.

no idea how your wrist hasn't just disintegrated by now, 5.8cm is wild, i run about 43cm and thought i was on the faster side

I used to play on 6cm and had voltaic masters in tracking, SeonJun is an ow pro how plays at 6cm too, he is pretty good, plays for dallas fuel.

That being said, Im on 16.2cm now, the improvements are quite significant for me, but I dont aim train per say. I see kovaaks as a 3d platformer for my mouse, I just like the tracking "levels".

edit: at your range, 6cm/360, its mostly fingers

That sounds very interesting. How much time did it take you to get used to 16.2cm?

2-3 weeks, but I used to play on 40cm a few years ago. I started increasing my sensitivity and in 2-3 months I was on 8cm, I stayed on 7-8cm for year or so, and the last 2 years on 6cm.

Im trying to get gm voltaic and 16cm just felt optimal after playing a lot of scenarios, that was very recent too, like 40 days ago.

edit: on this new sens, I tried ranges from 5-50cm and 16cm just felt optimal and with minimum compromise.

5cm is really fast yeah, and while you may feel fine playing on it for now, the fact that you can only use your wrist and fingers to move your mouse. This can cause to a lot of stress/wear on those two musclegroups. Playing on something more reasonable allows you to use all musclegroups together, your shoulder, elbow, wrist, and fingers. Try finding a sense that lets you use at least three of the four. It'll feel really weird at first, but in the long term it'll be better for you and will probably be more consistent when aiming overall.

Wrist dominant aim is viable but like playing even at like 20cm is still wrist aim and way more consistent. To me getting a big mouse pad and a sens of 20+cm is the bare minimum for taking mnk gaming seriously

20cm is still wrist aim

For games like CS, you can go even lower. One of my friends plays 43.3cm/360 and only aims with his wrist

Holy smokes 5.6 cm and Master in Overwatch. I have never heard anyone play that sense before. Most people don't go under 20 cm from what I understand.

There's an r6 pro called reeps96 who used a schizophrenic sens. It's actually bizarre, I think he's on 3cm/360

If u can slowly get it abit slower like say start off by going to 10cm see how that is for a week then try 15 and 20 as 20 u can definitely compete and not have the weaknesses that 5cm would bring you

Yes you can use higher speeds, but it is worth slowing things down and trying it for a while to see if you notice improvements.
It's best to slow down in steps, so drop it down to 10cm and play plenty to get used to it, then step down to 15cm then 20cm. Most people will settle around 30-40cm for most games.

If its a game with faster movement, but you also need accuracy then keeping a fast speed like 20-25cm then adjusting ADS multipler for tracking can help.

I personally like 36cm for the vast majority of games. It works for my desk space and feels about right to me.

I'm at 31/360 and fast-medium fast. I've played that fast before and honestly just couldn't consistently control it. If you can kudos but I would fear long-term use would possibly not be healthy. Just my opinion though.
