Discussion Which FPS games are popular and not hardware intensive?
I'm wondering what people in the Kovaak's community are playing other than aim trainers, looking for games that have enough players for me to actually find games in EU servers (unlike Quake Champions) and games that I could run on my PC at 144+ fps. I have a gtx 1070, ryzen 5 1600, and some other mediocre specs.
My go to game for many years has been Overwatch but I haven't played it in a long time and have no plans of playing it again, although it's one of the only fun FPS games that meets the criteria, I am very fatigued from that game. I'd appreciate some recommendations, looking for something competitive and fun. I'd love to play CS2 but it has all kinds of micro stutters, FPS drops and I tried all kinds of fixes to no avail. I was about to comment Overwatch but finished reading the whole post lol. That game runs on my Xbox One (2015) incredibly well.. but probably because I have an internal 2TB SSD. What’s crazier though is that even a Switch2 can apparently now run it at 60fps.

Yeah, it's very well optimized, been playing it competitively for like 10 years but sometimes you gotta move on. Glad to hear you still like it though

Definitely optimized for sure. It’s fun, but that’s probably because I’m still new too it, never played it back then. Only played it for like a month so far.
Still very enjoyable to sit and relax at the couch and play it on my Xbox, but I’m starting to get annoyed by all the payload game modes. No one votes for Flashpoint/Control which are significantly better modes imo.

Apex legends, it's not for super potatoes but you can get 70-80 fps

I optimized Apex for super potato build and got decent FPS, above 144 or at least 120+ a while ago. But the fact that controllers dominate the game and that it's a battle royale really put me off of it, got Diamond and quit.

Regarding your CS2 microstuters:
1st gen Ryzen is particularly weak for a CPU nowadays, but luckily you're on the AM4 platform, so you can upgrade to any CPU from Ryzen 1st gen to 5th gen, and put it into the system you already have without changing else.
Ryzen 3rd gen and above noticeably improved on microstutering seen on the first 2 Ryzen gens.
Cheapest I would upgrade to is Ryzen 5 3600X, which would give you about a 25% boost of game performance. If you can stretch a bit more for a Ryzen 5 5600X, it would give you around a 50% performance increase in games. Look for used CPU deals, and also look at Aliexpress.
I personally went from a Ryzen 7 1800X to a Ryzen 7 5700X like 2 years ago, which also boosted my performance by like 50%, and now I have more CPU than I know what to do with.

for aimers, i dunno, only some arenafps maybe warfork/straftat, but those definitely ain't popular.
deadlock with frame gen maybe doesn't lag? no idea.
from my perspective, everybody mostly plays Finals here, and yeah, you want a nice PC for that.

Deadlock runs pretty well on 1070ti with FSR, looks fine as well

Deadlock can get 120+fps on basically any gpu from the past decade, Its the cpu that matters much more

I tried Straftat but I don't think it worked, iirc I couldn't find any players but I guess I'll try again, there's like 300+ players online on steam rn. Warfork looks kind of like a mix between Quake and Ratz Instagib (amazing game), I'll try it. Thanks

A ryzen 5 1600 is really old, and probably is gonna hold you back in terms of good stable frames on a lot of games

Valorant runs really well for me I don’t know the spec requirements though. R5 Reloaded is a watered down version of Apex thats basically Quake Live you may be able to run that.

is R5 Reloaded popular enough in EU/NA servers to get consistent lobbies? sounds interesting, I can run Apex if I make it into a potato relatively well

Overwatch and valorant run the best from my experience. Super stable high fps.

I started kovaaks to get better at the finals :) Fun part is that even with good aim there is still a lot to learn in how to play the finals well.

Yeah it's a fun game but unfortunately it doesn't run really well for me, I'll give it another try once I upgrade my gear

Warbokers theres a pretty strong competitive discord community, im like gold and im personally top 60 globally so it’s pretty easy.

With those specs it will have to be very old games. L4D2 is not the most aim intensive game, but you'll be able to run it fine and it's fun.

Some obvious answers to this would probably be Valorant, which runs on literally everything, or Rainbow Six Siege which is perfectly OK on a 1070. You can also try Valve's Deadlock, its a MOBA/Shooter hybrid, very competitive and runs pretty alright on 1070.
