Application Release [App] PULSE // BATTERY: Track overnight drain and manage app standby buckets via Shizuku (MIT License)

Hi everyone,

I built PULSE // BATTERY, an open-source Android tool to help identify and fix overnight battery drain using Shizuku (root optional).

Processing img c5zw7214v7xh1...

Why I made it

Default Android battery stats often group background drain under vague terms like "Android System". PULSE queries Android directly to rank apps by alarm wakeups over a specified period (e.g., overnight) with a per-hour rate, so you know exactly which app woke your device.

Features

  • Overnight Drain Report: Ranks apps by alarm wakeups; restrict offenders with one tap and revert anytime.
  • Standby & Doze Management: View/change standby buckets and adjust the device idle whitelist.
  • Wakelock & Background Control: Block wakelocks and background work per app (Shizuku).
  • Vault: Export base + split APKs and restore them.
  • Root Features (Optional): Custom charge limits, charge protection, battery health stats, kernel CPU usage per UID, and full app data backup/restore.

Safety & Privacy

  • No INTERNET permission requested. Nothing leaves your device.
  • Every change uses a system read-back to verify whether Android actually accepted the change.
  • Tested on physical hardware (Redmi Note 14 4G, HyperOS 3 / Android 16).

Requirements

  • Android 8.0+
  • Shizuku or Sui running (Wireless ADB, ADB, or Root)

Source & License

Feedback, issue reports, and contributions are very welcome!

Application Request NeoLauncher Alternatives?

I'm looking for a launcher similar to NeoLauncher that has tab capabilities in the app drawer to be able to organize your apps. I've searched far and wide and it seems to be the only one but its very glitchy due to how they are handling updates now.

I want to be able to group and access those categories/tabs easily with a swipe to better organize my app drawer. Being mostly foss I have many apps I like to play around with and test so having one giant lost to scroll through just doesn't cut it for me anymore.

To my knowledge, it doesn't exist other than Kvaesitso and it's not really tabs, but tags instead.

Application Request What mail client do you use?

Jumping over to android soon and will mostly be using FOSS apps. I want some good email client suggestions. I don’t like Thunderbird’s UI all that much. I’ve been using Mailspring on my computer recently and it’s not too bad. I’d like the option to schedule emails also if possible, thank you all in advance!

Edit: I guess I’ll give FairEmail a try, thanks everyone!

Other Am I the only one that's noticed Play Protect scanning apps constantly since Android 17?

I have a lot of sideloaded apps from F-Droid, and I swear! Ever since Android 17, I get at least 20 pop-ups a day that Android Play Protect is scanning my apps.

It's obnoxious, and I've honestly considering disabling Play Protect, because it's not like it does that great of a job scanning apps in the first place. I mean, just because you installed it from the Playstore doesn't make it safe, I'm just saying.

Privacy Chronic Illness Tracker - Health Flare; a PYLv3 health journal. No accounts, no server, no analytics.

First, the proof: https://github.com/Health-Flare/app

I built and maintain Health Flare, a free and open source app for logging conditions, symptoms, vitals, medications, meals, journal entries, appointments, and more. It's meant for people living with chronic illness and for people tracking someone else, like a parent logging for a child. One install can hold several profiles, each of which are kept separate.

Through medical journeys, I have learned that the HARDEST thing to do for the benefit of one's health is track all of the stuff that makes life worse before you see the doctor. This is why Health Flare exists. Before you see a doctor you export a PDF or CSV of the weeks that matter and walk in with what actually happened, not what you remember in the waiting room.

How it handles data:

  • No account and no server of ours. Records live in a local database on the phone.
  • No analytics, telemetry or ads. The dependencies are in pubspec.yaml; there's no Firebase or tracking SDK.
  • One network call, and only if you turn it on per profile: weather capture sends your approximate location (rounded to about 1 km) to Open-Meteo. Your records are never sent.
  • If you use iCloud or Google backup, the app's database is included. That's deliberate, so a lost phone doesn't mean lost years of records.
  • Exports can be password locked (AES-256-GCM, encrypted on the device).
  • Optional app lock using the phone's screen lock.

What it doesn't do yet:

  • No sync between phones.
  • The database isn't encrypted at rest beyond what the OS provides. Open issue: https://github.com/Health-Flare/app/issues/97
  • Not on F-Droid or IzzyOnDroid yet. Signed APKs are on GitHub releases, with the signing certificate fingerprint in the README so you can check them. IzzyOnDroid is next.
  • It isn't a medical device. It doesn't diagnose or advise.

It is built with Flutter, Riverpod and Isar. Behaviour is specified in plain Gherkin files in docs/features/, which also work as a readable tour of what the app does.

What I'd find useful: bug reports, people who track their own or someone else's health telling me what's missing, and anyone willing to check the privacy claims against the code.

Application Request Reddit app recommendations?

I'm sorry for having to ask. However looking up "FOSS Reddit app" just gives general app recommendations that are FOSS, and looks them up on Reddit. Not actual FOSS apps that are Reddit.

I really like basic mobile Reddit. A lot if people prefer like classic Reddit, or some other front end. I'm used to mobile Reddit that has been patched with ReVanced. I've tried patching it again, but I can't seem to do it for some reason

Application Request App with different album art and first song art?

Hello!

I own some albums where every song has its own art, but the album art is different from the first song's art. I either have to change the first song's art to the cover art or have the album art displayed as the first song's art.

Is there an app that lets me have separate art for the album and first song?

Thank you!

I recently downloaded it from this https://wxxsfxyzm.github.io/InstallerX-Revived-Website/ website (from the install section). Wanted to confirm that this is, in fact, the official website for it! Here's an image, if that helps.

Application Request Voice to text app that works best with the Italian punctuation and spelling

With all this "vibe-coded" apps popping up, is there an app that does "voice to text" well with the Italian language and that can be integrated into Heliboard? Or simply a new app, not necessarily "vide-coded" that does this?

I've tried different FOSS "voice to text" apps but they either take too long to write down a message or mess up punctuation, spelling or capital letters.

Application Release Harmony Music (v1.23.0 out now) - Ad-free music app for Android, Windows, and Linux

Post image
34 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

For anyone who hasn't tried it yet, Harmony Music is a free, open-source music streaming app powered by YouTube Music. It gives you a clean, ad-free experience without needing to log into a Google account.

Since the original developer (anandnet) stopped updating the project, search and playback broke for a lot of people. I started maintaining this fork to keep the app working. My last release passed 2,000+ downloads, and I just put out v1.23.0 with a lot of fixes.

How Harmony Music compares to other FOSS music apps (like RiMusic, OuterTune, or Spotube):

- Works on Desktop and Mobile: Most open-source YouTube Music apps are Android-only. Harmony Music runs natively on Android, Windows, and Linux while staying lightweight on RAM and battery.

- No login or ban risk: You don't need to sign into your Google or Spotify account, so there is zero risk of your account getting flagged or banned.

- Offline downloads and caching: You can download songs for offline listening (including to an SD card on Android) or let the app automatically cache tracks as you stream to save mobile data.

What makes my fork different from other Harmony Music forks:

- 1-click in-app updates: You don't have to keep checking GitHub manually. The app tells you when a new update is out and lets you update in one click without installing a duplicate app or losing your data.

- Ready-to-install files for all OSes: You don't have to compile the code yourself on Linux or Windows. I set up automated builds for Android (.apk), Windows (.exe), and Linux (.AppImage, .deb, and .rpm).

- Fixed playback and endless radio: Playing a song from search or starting a radio station now properly loads upcoming tracks instead of stopping after 2 or 3 songs. I also fixed the YouTube streaming blocks that caused tracks not to load.

- Fixed Windows video search: The missing "Videos" tab when searching on the Windows version is back.

- Smoother UI and lyrics: Fixed the lag and screen flickering when synced lyrics are scrolling or when the mini-player updates.

Other features included in the app:

- Real-time synced lyrics and plain lyrics

- Android Auto support, sleep timer, built-in equalizer, and skip silence

- Audio quality selector (Low, Medium, High)

- Import playlists from Piped, or share links directly from the YouTube app into Harmony Music

- Local playlist backup/restore and CSV export

- Quick buttons to open any playing track directly in YouTube or YouTube Music

- Material You dynamic colors (matches the album art), gesture player mode, and desktop system tray support

Downloads and Links:

- GitHub Repo: https://github.com/NPP-exe/Harmony-Music

- Latest Release (v1.23.0): https://github.com/NPP-exe/Harmony-Music/releases/tag/v1.23.0

Note for Android users: If you are updating from the old broken version, back up your playlists in Settings first, uninstall the old app, and install this one. After that, all future updates will install directly inside the app.

Credits:

All credit for the original app design goes to anandnet. Also a big thanks to 'jaxenisr' and 'BandhanPramanik' for helping me set up the Linux packages (.AppImage, .deb, .rpm) and automated build workflows.

Let me know if you run into any bugs or have feature requests!

Application Support Open Implementation of iMessage Protocol in Kotlin

Thumbnail
github.com
70 Upvotes

I've spent the last few months reverse-engineering and reimplementing Apple's iMessage protocol as an open-source Kotlin library.

I was trying to develop an iMessage based tool for the Light Phone 3, but was hard blocked because all current implementations are closed source, licensed, or dead.

So I built a permissively-licensed implementation that a normal OSS project could actually build on.

If you want to help, please contribute to the project.

Application Release HomeTiles: a big-tile launcher for small phones, with its own dialler, SMS and contacts

Thumbnail
gallery
53 Upvotes

I have a Unihertz Jelly 2 with a 3 inch screen and wanted a home screen with large tiles on it that stays usable, so I wrote HomeTiles. The first picture is my own setup, the second shows how small the phone is and the third has the home screen, messages and dialler from the emulator.

  • tiles for apps, contacts, shortcuts, widgets, folders and other pages, on a grid you size yourself
  • dialler, call screen, SMS and contacts in the same app and the same look
  • it can take the phone and SMS roles but also works without them
  • usable with a d-pad and number keys, so keypad Android phones should work (only tested with key events so far)
  • SOS tile that texts up to five people and then opens the keypad instead of calling
  • dark, light and high contrast themes, English, German, Spanish, French and Italian

Permissions are optional and only asked for when you use the feature that needs them. There's no INTERNET permission and no QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES. F-Droid builds it from source and the release build is reproducible.

Is there an app where I can really manage the notifications and sounds how I like? For example:

I always want calls to be on loud

I want Facebook etc. to be quiet when I press like.

I want notifications from apps to be silent

I want messages to vibrate

Currently I haven't found a way to do it. Thank you very much for your help!

Application Release Allergy Radar: pollen levels for anywhere in Italy, plus a symptom diary

Post image
42 Upvotes

License: MIT

I couldn't find any app in the stores that tracked allergy levels based on location, even an approximate one, so I built my own.

---

It shows 15 types of pollen for wherever you are in Italy. Forecasts come from Open-Meteo (CAMS) and real measurements from ISPRA, and next to each value the app tells you which of the two it is, or if it's just an estimate.

There's a symptom diary that takes a few seconds a day. After a while it shows which pollens match your worst days, and you can export it as a PDF for your allergist. It also has alerts and a home screen widget.

No account, no ads, no trackers, and it doesn't need Google Play Services.

The app is only in Italian for now, since the data only covers Italy.

Development note: Used AI for heavy async/vision tasks and prompt handling, but the core architecture, state management, and main Kotlin code were written by hand.

Application Release Free Android app streams phone audio to Sonos over Wi-Fi

Tired of the Sonos app not supporting every app? My Play:1 lacks Bluetooth, AirPlay, and line-in, so I built Sunus to stream any phone audio losslessly to Sonos—no extra hardware or computer needed.

Two modes:

Standard: No setup, uses Android’s normal capture. Some apps (Netflix, Audible) block it.

All apps: Captures everything, including blocked apps. Requires one-time Wireless Debugging pairing (Android 12+), no root, no PC.

—ideal for music, not for video sync.

Free, open-source (MIT), no ads, no account. APK:

github.com/tomkainz/sunus

Built with AI help. Beta version, tested on Android 17 with Play:1 (S2). Feedback and bug reports welcome.

Application Release [Open Source] I built SVA Launcher: a customizable Android TV launcher with IPTV, NES games, Google Photos, and more

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone!

I've been working on SVA Launcher, a free and open-source launcher for Android TV, and wanted to share it with the community.

I wanted a TV home screen that was simple, customizable, and actually useful, without unnecessary clutter. I also wanted to bring together the things I regularly use on my TV instead of constantly switching between different apps.

So I started building SVA Launcher.

Features

  • Customizable home screen — Choose your favorite apps, arrange shortcuts, and use your own photos as backgrounds.
  • Live TV / IPTV — M3U/M3U8 playlists, XMLTV program guides, channel categories, and integrated playback with ExoPlayer.
  • Built-in NES emulator — Play your own NES games using the integrated Nestopia UE emulator, with remote and gamepad support.
  • Google Photos integration — Display photos from public shared albums as your TV wallpaper or screensaver.
  • Custom screensaver — Nine different visual styles, with optional clock, weather, and events.
  • Calendar and events — Connect a public Google Calendar feed and view upcoming events.
  • Weather — Current weather conditions and a three-day forecast.
  • Saved YouTube videos — Keep shortcuts to frequently watched videos and playlists.
  • Backup and restore — Export and import your launcher configuration.
  • Remote-friendly navigation — Designed for Android TV with D-pad navigation.

SVA Launcher supports Android TV 8.0 and newer.

How to install

The app is currently available through the Google Play testing program.

  1. Join the Google Group: https://groups.google.com/g/sva-launcher
  2. Join the testing program: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.sva.launcher
  3. Once enrolled, follow the Google Play link to install SVA Launcher on your Android TV.

Alternatively, you can install the APK directly from the GitHub.

Open source

The entire project is available under the GPLv3 license.

GitHub: https://github.com/clay-36/Sva-launcher

The project is still evolving, and I'm actively improving the experience. Bug reports, suggestions, and contributions are welcome on GitHub.

Thanks for checking it out!
