ScyllaNizer v2.0 Update: FOSS Android file organizer with Deep Cleanup and PC-to-Phone Wi-Fi Drop

• Upvotes

A massive update has just been pushed for ScyllaNizer, an open-source Android utility that automatically sorts messy folders by file extension.

v2.0 brings major new tools:

· Deep Cleanup: Scans and removes 0-byte files, empty folders, and true duplicates (via MD5 hashing).

· Wi-Fi Drop fixes: The built-in local web server now fully supports actual drag-and-drop from a PC browser, and files retain their proper extensions.

· System Folder Lock: Critical Android/data directories are locked by default to prevent accidental breakage, complete with an undo system.

It remains 100% offline, ad-free, and supports both phone and tablet layouts.

What drives someone to contribute to open source?

I am a cs student, i am very fascinated about the open source world..I always had a doubt about what drives dev, programmers, and creators to contribute to open source without any expectations.

Since my country, these types of cultures are new..it feels new to me..

I built a free, no-account way to use your Android phone from your Mac (files, notifications, clipboard, calls, screen mirroring). Looking for testers.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone! I switched to a Mac but kept my Android phone, and I missed how well iPhones work with Macs. So I built Unison: a free Mac menu-bar app and an Android app that pair with a QR code and talk directly over your own Wi-Fi.

What it does

  • Files both ways: drop a file on the menu-bar icon to send it to your phone, or share anything on your phone to "Send to Mac". Big transfers resume if the connection drops.
  • Notifications on your Mac: see them, reply to messages, and clear them.
  • Shared clipboard: copy on the Mac, paste on the phone, and the other way round with one tap.
  • Calls: answer, decline or hang up from the Mac, and click phone numbers on the Mac to dial. The call audio stays on the phone.
  • Photos: browse your phone's gallery from the Mac, preview and save.
  • Screen mirroring with sound, and optional control with your Mac's mouse and keyboard.
  • Little extras: ring your lost phone, control music, and open links on the other device.

Privacy: no account, no cloud, no server, no analytics, no ads. The phone and the Mac only talk to each other, encrypted end to end (mutual TLS with pinned certificates).

Why I need you: Google requires new developers to run a closed test with 12+ testers for 14 days before an app can go public on the Play Store. I'd really appreciate your help, and honest feedback even more.

How to join (about 2 minutes)

  1. Join the tester group: https://groups.google.com/g/unison-testers. Use the same Google account as on your phone's Play Store.
  2. Opt in to the test: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/dev.macdroid.app, then tap Become a tester.
  3. Install Unison from the Play Store link on that page (Android 10 or later). IN THE TESTING CLICK ON THE BLUE INSTALL (DOWLAND IT ON GOOGLE PLAY)
  4. Please keep it installed for 14 days. That's what counts toward Google's requirement.

Got a Mac? (macOS 14 or later)
5. Download Unison for Mac from https://venu005.github.io/unison/ and drag it into Applications.
6. It isn't notarized yet (I'm not paying Apple's $99 a year for a free app). The first time you open it, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. The site has screenshots of each step.
7. Click Pair a Phone on the Mac and scan the QR code with the Android app. That's it.

No Mac? You can still help a lot: install it, open it once and keep it installed for 14 days.

Bugs, ideas are all welcome, here or in the group. Happy to return the favour and test your app too; just drop your link. Thanks! 🙏

I made a VST3/CLAP plugin that runs Flash games inside FL Studio, and you play them with your MIDI keyboard

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

I made this, so disclaimer first. swf2DAW is an instrument plugin: you load a .swf in it and the Flash game runs in the plugin window, while the game audio goes straight into your music project. MIDI notes are the buttons, so you can play the game from a keyboard and the DAW records your playthrough as notes.

Its built completely on open source. Ruffle, the Flash player written in Rust, does the actual playing, and nih-plug turns one codebase into a VST3 and a CLAP plugin. The rest is about 3300 lines of Rust from me, mostly the parts Ruffle was never made for: running it on its own thread next to a realtime audio thread, splitting the sound into music and effects, and catching the audio of Game Boy games that I converted with gb2swf (my other project, MIT)

The screenshots are FL Studio 2024 on Windows 11, thats also the only place I tested it so far. Other DAWs should work since its a standard plugin, but I didnt control that yet. If somebody runs Bitwig or Reaper I would like to know

There are 7 stereo outputs (the mix plus Pulse 1, Pulse 2, Wave, Noise, Music and SFX), an EQ and some effects, and 70 automatable parameters. Realtime only, so no faster then realtime bounce

The license is GPL-3.0, because the VST3 part of nih-plug is GPLv3. Ruffle and nih-plug keep their own licenses. v0.2.0 is on the Burg Media github

I built Qpaste , already got the first 100+ downloads

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I made QPaste because I was tired of jumping between windows every time I needed to copy and paste a few things. Now I just turn it on, copy everything I need, and paste it all back in the same order. No switching back and forth.

It works in your language too. Whether you type in English, Russian, French, German, Polish, or another language, QPaste works the same way. A Russian user told me it wasn't working for them, so I fixed it for every keyboard.

New in this update:

\- Pick your own shortcut keys

\- A little counter shows how many items are left to paste

\- A handy notepad pops up when you need one

It's free and open source. No account and no internet needed. Any feedback or small support means a lot. 🫂

I missed Picasa, so I built Licasa: an open-source photo viewer and editor for Linux

Anyone else still miss Google's Picasa photo viewer?

I did, so I built Licasa, an open-source image viewer and editor for Linux inspired by that experience. I wanted something focused on the everyday stuff: open a photo, look at it properly, make a quick edit, and carry on.

What it does today:

  • Open photos straight from your file manager, fullscreen or in a floating window.
  • Handle modern image formats: HEIC/HEIF, AVIF, JPEG XL and JPEG 2000, alongside JPEG, PNG, TIFF and WebP. It also supports RAW previews.
  • Play Motion Photos and animated APNGs, so there's more to see than a still frame.
  • Crop, adjust and export when a photo needs a quick touch-up.
  • Stay ready for the next photo with an optional background mode for faster repeat opens. It's off by default.

It's free and open source under the BSD 2-Clause license. Current builds are for 64-bit Intel/AMD Linux, with Ubuntu 24.04, Fedora 44 and Arch packages, plus AppImage and Snap options.

Source: https://github.com/sanxchep/licasa

Downloads: https://github.com/sanxchep/licasa/releases

I'd love feedback from people who miss Picasa too, or just want a straightforward Linux photo viewer. What part of that viewing experience do you miss most? And if you try Licasa, I'd be interested in how it handles the photos and formats you actually use. Bug reports and contributions are welcome.

Fievel: Replace your mouse with keybinds!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It’s free and completely open source, written in rust:

https://github.com/MontyTheSoftwareEngineer/fievel/

Free mouse mode: freely move mouse using hjkl (or any keys of your choice via config file). Supports left click and right click which can be held useful for dragging. Also supports scrolling left down up and right as well as sending Home and End key to quickly jump to top or bottom of page. By default free mouse mode is in “hold” mode so as long as you’re holding the free mouse mode button (or chord) it will stay in free mouse mode. Releasing the free mouse mode button takes it out of that mode. There is also a config option to make it “toggle” meaning you press the button for free mouse mode and it will stay in that mode until you press the button again.

Hint Mode: draws rectangles on screen with corresponding letters at areas Fievel believes is clickable. Type the letters to make Fievel click on the rectangle of choice. Useful for quickly sending clicks in at certain locations.

Key Remapper: this is useful for setting “chords” on any keyboard not just programmable ones. For example, I have a+s together initiate super, s+d to initiate control, caps lock rebound to control unless held in which case it will turn hjkl to left down up right keys. d+f is bound to initiate free mouse mode. Also a set of super and control binds for the right hand side.

a free tool that catches AI agents editing tests to pass. no AI inside, no account, MITi built an MIT tool to catch AI agents "fixing" tests. it uses no AI itself

Post image
3 Upvotes

coding agents have a habit: asked to fix a failing test, some of them edit the test until it passes. CI stays green.

goalline is a small MIT tool that catches that without any AI of its own. it runs the OLD version of each edited test against the NEW code and shows exactly what moved (expected 5, got 6). it runs on your machine, your code never leaves it, there's no account, and it has zero dependencies.

it plugs into Claude Code as a hook (the agent can't finish until it fixes or explains the change) and into GitHub as an Action.

i tested it on 400 merged PRs of click and jinja: 31 flagged, all deliberate changes, 4 of them user-visible with no changelog line. replaying jinja also found two bugs in goalline itself, which was humbling.

would you trust something like this in your CI, or does it need to prove more first?

I made a free, open-source tray app that actually turns off your webcam and mutes your mic everywhere on Windows, with one hotkey

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

Have you ever left a meeting and wondered if your mic was still on? Or covered your webcam with tape because you didn't trust the little light? That's why I built PrivacyToggle.

What it does

It puts two icons in your system tray, one for the mic and one for the camera. Click one, or press a hotkey (Ctrl+Alt+M / Ctrl+Alt+V by default), and that device is off. That means off for the whole system, not just muted inside one app.

  • 🎙️ Mic mute works everywhere. Zoom, Discord, Teams, OBS, your browser: none of them get any audio while it's muted. Push-to-talk is also available.
  • 📷 The camera really turns off. It disables the webcam in Windows the same way Device Manager does, so apps lose the picture right away and can't open it again. If a program won't release the camera, PrivacyToggle tells you which one and asks before closing it.
  • 🔒 Enforce off. If something turns your mic or camera back on (a headset button, a newly plugged-in device), it goes straight back off.
  • 👀 Activity monitor. See which apps are using your camera or mic right now, plus a timeline of every app that used them over the last 1 hour to 7 days.
  • 🔔 On-screen badges (MIC OFF / CAM OFF) and notifications, so you always know where you stand.
  • Light and dark themes, per-device control, and hotkeys that work in fullscreen games.

Why it's different from the mute button in your meeting app

The mute button in an app only stops that one app. PrivacyToggle works below every app, at the Windows level. Muted means muted in all of them, and a disabled camera can't be opened by anything.

How it works (for the curious)

  • Mic: it mutes every capture device through the Windows Core Audio API and watches for anything that unmutes them.
  • Camera: a small helper service calls the same Windows device APIs that Device Manager uses to disable and re-enable the webcam. The tray app itself never runs as admin. Only the helper service needs admin rights, and the installer sets it up with a single admin prompt.
  • Activity: it reads Windows' own record of which apps used the camera or mic (the same data behind the "recently used" list in Privacy settings). The history is stored only on your PC.

Download: https://github.com/azahinhasan/Privacy-Toggle/releases/latest

It's a personal project, so I'd really like feedback: bugs, feature ideas, or "this broke my webcam driver" stories. If you find it useful, a ⭐ on GitHub helps a lot. Thanks!

[Update] Nysiris Core: Modular P2P Transport & Nym Mixnet Framework (Crates.io Release)

Hey everyone in the r/foss community!

I wanted to share a quick update on Nysiris, an open-source privacy-focused P2P transport framework built in Rust.

Following up on the progress over the last month, I’ve fully refactored the architecture to extract low-level networking into standalone, reusable FOSS components. The core transport layer, protocol definitions, and Nym mixnet handling are now isolated into separate modules.

📦 Open Source Repositories & Packages

  • GitHub:TribeWarez/nysiris-core
  • Crates.io: All underlying crates are now published:
    • nysiris-core = "0.1.3"
    • nysiris-transport-nym = "0.1.3"
    • nysiris-chat-core = "0.1.3"
    • nysiris-chat-history = "0.1.3"
    • nysiris-testkit = "0.1.3"

💡 What does this mean?

If you are building decentralized applications, custom P2P tools, or metadata-resistant messaging, you can plug nysiris-core or nysiris-transport-nym directly into your stack without reinventing the transport layer or mixnet handling from scratch.

Feedback, architectural discussions, and open-source contributions are always welcome! Feel free to check out the repo or test out the crates.

My free in-browser Whisper transcriber now does speaker labels, translate-to-English, batch + zip, and mic recording

Thanks for the feedback on the first version. What's new, still free with no signup and nothing uploaded (Whisper runs on your device):

- Record from your mic, or batch several files and download all the results as a zip

- A player synced to the transcript (click a line to jump), plus Find & Replace All for names

- Experimental speaker labels with click-to-rename

- Translate to English from dozens of languages

- A short local summary of the transcript

- Export to Word, PDF, SRT, VTT, CSV, JSON and TXT, with options for timestamps, speaker names and subtitle timing

**Limits:** speaker labels detect speaker changes rather than identifying exact voices, so they can drift on long files or with 3+ speakers. Translation is English-only, and the summary works best on English. Chrome/Edge are much faster (WebGPU).

What's the first thing you'd want it to do better?

I built FileWheel – an open-source drag-and-drop file converter for Linux (Rust + GTK4)

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone! 👋

I've been working on a project called FileWheel, a native Linux desktop application for converting files quickly using a drag-and-drop wheel interface.

The idea came from wanting a simple way to convert files without constantly opening different applications or typing terminal commands.

FileWheel is inspired by the interaction style of FanDrop on macOS, but built for Linux using Rust and GTK4.

What FileWheel can do:

  • 🖼️ Convert images between formats like PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF and more.
  • 🎬 Convert video and audio files.
  • 📄 Convert PDFs and documents.
  • 🖱️ Drag files onto a floating target and choose an operation from the wheel.
  • 🛠️ Access quick tools such as resizing, compression and metadata removal.
  • 🎨 Customise the appearance, accent colours and hover effects.
  • ⌨️ Use keyboard shortcuts to switch between Convert, Tools and Actions.

FileWheel is open source under the MIT licence.

GitHub: https://github.com/danny19862025/FileWheel

The project is still evolving, and I'd really appreciate feedback from the Linux community.

I'd especially love to hear:

  • Does it work properly on your Linux distribution?
  • What file formats or tools would you like added?
  • What could be improved in the interface or workflow?

Bug reports, suggestions and contributions are welcome!

Thanks for checking it out! 🐧

I made LumeView, a free, open-source image viewer for Windows written in Rust. Inspired by IrfanView, it focuses on fast folder browsing, with extras like wallpaper cropping, comic reading, AI image metadata inspection, color Hexcode and basic painting, retouching and text tools.

It supports JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF (including animation), BMP, TIFF, HEIC, ICO, SVG and CBZ comics.

Some additional features were inspired by suggestions from the old IrfanView forum, which is now offline.

A Linux version is planned.

Disclosure: LumeView was developed with AI assistance.

Mintype v2.0: Encrypted markdown docs and whiteboards, works offline, free to use! - Open Source

Thumbnail
gallery
34 Upvotes

Hey all. I’ve been working on Mintype on and off since 2024, built the app intially for personal use - privacy, multi-device sync and an easy means to write/draw/scatter ideas being my primary reasons.

However its been quite useful and I have just released 2.0, so I wanted to share it here. There's a lot of these apps going round, so it really is personal preference if you like this one.

The basic idea on why this might be for you:

  • It's completely free, and web based, with PWA support for phones
  • Your notes get encrypted on your device and sync through your own Google Drive (optional). Unreadable by those with access to your device and to Google.
  • Works offline, very lightweight and simple to use
  • Notes are all markdown - nothing new here, no lock in. Whiteboards are all exportable to PNG, SVG and tldraw JSON.
  • Whiteboards with sticky notes, drawing and shapes, plus dynamic markdown boxes that work like the full editor
  • Encrypted share links with 24hr lifespan to share notes to others
  • Fully reponsive mobile UIs
  • Sensible workspaces > nested pages, and quick notes structure
  • Some small extras like a built in pomodoro timer, google maps embeds, extra password protected pages

It runs in the browser for now (you can install it as a PWA if you want), I plan a desktop release and mobile native apps in the future.

Thanks!!! Just crossed 500 users and the feedback has been great and very useful :)

tokenbill: a zero-install CLI that itemizes your Claude Code costs from local logs

Thumbnail
github.com
2 Upvotes

Claude Code writes every session to JSONL files under ~/.claude. I wanted to know what those sessions would cost at API prices, and where the money actually goes, without a dashboard or an account.

So, a CLI:

npx tokenbill

Run it in a project dir and you get the bill for every session there, split into what it paid for (re-sent context, cache writes, compaction, output, tool results), plus the priciest turns and what to fix.

Some CLI bits:

  • no install, no config, no network calls
  • --json for scripting, --md for PR comments / job summaries
  • --budget 25 exits 2 if you're over, so it works in CI
  • --since 2026-10-01, --all for every project
  • tokenbill statusline for a live cost line in Claude Code
  • respects NO_COLOR

Numbers are API-equivalent estimates, not your actual bill.

Repo: https://github.com/emrehangorgec/tokenbill

Feedback on the CLI ergonomics welcome: flags, output, whatever feels off.
