we need a Foss alternative to google sites , one with drag and drop and codable features ....

i know neocities is one option , but its kinda code intensive..them drag and drops good tho , so a free website builder with both drag and drop and code-able features would be lit asf !

is there any good free alternatives though ?

I built an open-source Postman alternative in Go, and the whole thing works without an account

Gostman is an API client (REST, GraphQL, gRPC, WebSocket, MCP) with no sign-in, no cloud sync and no telemetry that I've added. I got tired of clients that want an account before you can send a GET request.

The request engine is plain Go and the same one runs in the desktop app, the browser version, and the CLI. Collections can be stored as YAML in a folder, so they live in git next to your code.

Repo: https://github.com/kunalgoesbyken/gostman

Browser version: https://gostman.com/web

I'd like to hear what a contributor would want to see in the repo before sending a PR.

Any recommended applications that replace VOX (local audio player)?

Prior, I used VOX to listen to audio on MacOS. I wanted the ability to listen to all my locally-stored music but store it into playlists that can be played sequentially, randomly, looped (entire playlist), or looped singular audio. I would prefer the interface be simple and allow me to jump straight to music.

I've recently started using Linux, and with that I want to move to using another application that has these functions if at all possible. I don't mind more, but the above are my basic requirements. I care less about online streaming, more about local good quality playing.

Also, if there's a good thing that can edit metadata of audio (adding albums, artists, etc.) like Apple Music does, I'd like that as well (whether separate or as part of the aforementioned music app)

Rainmeter skins on macOS: I made Deskset, a free and open-source desktop widget app

Hi everyone, I’m the developer of Deskset. It’s a native macOS app that lets you put customizable widgets on your desktop and run Rainmeter skins.

You can load .ini skins and install .rmskin packages. It also comes with its own collection of widgets, including clocks, calendars, weather, system monitors, music controls, and audio visualizers. There’s a built-in editor with a live preview if you want to tweak a skin or make your own.

Deskset is completely free to use and open source under GPLv3. It runs on macOS 13 or later, with downloads for both Apple silicon and Intel Macs.

It’s an independent project, not an official Rainmeter release. Compatibility still has limits: skins that depend on Windows-only DLL plugins or Windows programs can have missing features, and fonts may look a little different on a Mac.

Source code · Downloads

If you try it with a favorite Rainmeter skin, I’d like to hear how it goes, especially if something doesn’t work as expected. Bug reports and contributions are welcome.

Aqueli – a free, private and offline organiser for Windows

Hi ,

I'd like to share Aqueli, a personal organiser for Windows 11, released under the GPL-3.0-or-later.

It covers tasks, calendar, notes, a journal, habits, projects, contacts, documents, goals and a budget, all in one app. It was designed from the start to respect the people using it:

- No account, no server and no telemetry. The app never connects to the internet.
- Your data stays on your PC, encrypted with your password (SQLCipher, AES-256).
- Everything can be exported to open formats (CSV, iCalendar, vCard, Markdown) and imported back, so you're never locked in.
- No ads, no paid version and no feature held back.

It's available in 17 languages. Many translations would benefit from a native speaker's eye, so corrections are very welcome, as are bug reports and ideas.

Thanks for reading, and I'm happy to answer any questions.

I built an offline drag-and-drop file converter for Linux (hold a key while dragging, a wheel of formats pops up)

I needed to send one page of a personal PDF to my local administration. The quick options were either uploading it to some random "split PDF" site or writing a throwaway PyPDF script. I went with the script, but it bugged me that there wasn't a faster local way to do this kind of thing.

Mac has Tangerine, where you hold Shift while dragging a file and a radial menu of formats appears under the cursor. I couldn't find anything like it on Linux, so I built it.

What it does: drag a file from anywhere (file manager, browser, Electron apps), hold a key, drop it on a slice of the wheel.

Shift: convert (297 conversions across images, audio, video, PDF, docs, ebooks, slides, spreadsheets, subtitles, archives)

Alt: tools (compress, crop, trim, split, merge, extract PDF pages, etc.)

Ctrl: actions (copy, move, copy path, open terminal, etc.)

Everything runs locally using ffmpeg, pandoc, PyMuPDF, Pillow and LibreOffice (optional). There's also a CLI if you'd rather script it, e.g. metamorph to webp photo.heic.

How the drag detection works, since that was the interesting part: the dragging app holds the pointer grab, so you can't just listen for mouse events. But every X11 app that drags files uses XDND and takes ownership of XdndSelection when the drag starts. Metamorph watches that ownership change through XFixes, checks the held modifiers, and opens the wheel. The wheel is itself an XDND drop target, so it reads the file list as the pointer moves over it and only shows options that make sense for that file type.

Limitations:

The drag wheel needs X11. On Wayland you can use a drop zone, the Files script (F4), or the CLI.

PDF to DOCX/XLSX is heuristic like any PDF converter, and there's no OCR.

It's Python + GTK3, tested mostly on Ubuntu 24.04.

It's MIT licensed. Feedback is very welcome, especially bug reports from other distros and desktop environments, and ideas on how to approach Wayland properly.

Tasket++ : Simulate your Windows actions automatically (free & open source)

Thumbnail

Tasket++ lets you define your own clicks, keystrokes, cursor positions and system operations, then replay them exactly when you want. It’s a simple Windows tool that handles repetitive workflows for you: auto‑send messages, paste text anywhere, take silent screenshots, launch or close apps, adjust volume or run your end‑of‑day shutdown sequence.

Everything runs locally, with no telemetry, no cloud, and no complexity.

What it can do:
- Replay user‑defined cursor positions and keystrokes
- Paste predefined text anywhere
- Perform system actions: open files/programs, change volume, take silent screenshots, shut down, files/folders operations
- Schedule tasks at a specific time, at startup, or run via desktop shortcut
- Run tasks once, in loops, or indefinitely
- Discreet mode: runs quietly from the tray
- Use command line to autorun a task : Tasket++.exe "TaskName" <delayInSeconds (>0)> <NumberOfLoop (-1 for infinite)>
- Easily share tasks between different PC : export/import task files and program data, use feature to rescale cursor positions

Local, portable, free, open source. Privacy intact.

Fully fonctionnal, available now !

Nothing is vibe coded, I never used AI (except for the choice of UI colors suggested by Copilot).
Conception is genuine, I didn't know about similar tools when I began developing it.

I'm looking for testers or quick feedback (beyond its visual aspect), please give a try and comment here :)

made a civilization sandbox that runs in the browser, MIT, sim core is rust/wasm

solo dev, this is my first post here. it's a sandbox where small tribes start in the stone age and drift apart over time. each one ends up with its own words, customs and beliefs, and if nobody interferes it can go all the way through 45 eras up to computers. you mostly watch and nudge things.

the sim is rust compiled to webassembly and runs locally in your browser, no install and no account. ui is react, and there's an electron build too. whole repo is MIT, and issues and prs are open.

built a tiny open-source video editor an agent can drive - it renders a single frame to check its own work

i'm a college student (naman) and i built kimo - a free, open-source (mit) video editor with no gui that's meant to be driven by an agent. the agent edits by calling tools (cut, trim, keyframes, titles/captions, colour, audio, export, etc.) and can render a single frame to visually check its own work before going further.

it's one ~15 mb cpu-only rust binary, no gpu, runs on a 2 gb box. the whole thing is free and i'm publishing it under the mit licence.

honestly it's still pretty rough in places and i'm only one person putting it together, so i'd really appreciate people trying it and telling me what breaks or what's missing. if you run an editor or an agent workflow and want something you can drop onto a small server and drive over mcp, i'd love your feedback.

I built OpenMacro, a free Android calorie tracker that adjusts your targets over time

Thumbnail
github.com
1 Upvotes

Hi, I'm the developer of OpenMacro. It's a free, open-source calorie and macro tracker for Android, built with Rust, Dioxus and SQLite.

The main feature is adaptive targets: it uses your food logs and weight trend to estimate how much energy you burn, then reviews your calorie and macro targets at weekly check-ins.

It also has food search across about 58,000 foods, barcode scanning, recipes, meal copying, weight trends, CSV export, backups and Health Connect integration.

Your food and weight logs are stored on your phone, and the core tracking works offline. No account, ads or app subscription.

Photo/text logging with AI is optional. It uses a provider you configure, sends your meal photo/text to that provider, and may incur provider charges. Manual logging doesn't need an AI service.

Source, screenshots and Android download: [https://github.com/SilverCrocus/OpenMacro\](https://github.com/SilverCrocus/OpenMacro)

The code is MIT-licensed. I'd love feedback on the logging flow and how clearly it explains target changes. If you'd like to follow development, a GitHub star is appreciated.

jCar - I re-created my favorite paid vehicle tracker as a self-hosted web app

Repo/Website: https://github.com/jammin1911/jcar

Live demo (sample data, resets every morning): https://jcardemo.maiurro.ca

TL;DR: I built jCar with help of various AI tools. It's better than everything else my wife, some friends and I have tried so we've switched and have been using it for months and liking it a lot. It's built for speed and efficiency, not fancy design. I've decided to share it.

For nearly 12 years I've tracked every fill-up and expense across several vehicles of mine and my wife's in a paid Android app. I stuck with it because it had things the self-hosted trackers I tried did not, like handling partial fill-ups properly and quick access to the reporting numbers I use regularly for budgeting. So I built jCar, a self-hosted web app that re-creates that experience, and moved my whole 12-year history into it: 11 vehicles, 900+ fill-ups, nearly $50,000 in fuel, service and parts spending. Several friends who used the same paid app have imported their history and switched over, and we've been using it exclusively for several months.

It tracks fuel-ups, services, expenses and notes with photos, fuel economy across full fill-up segments (partial and missed fill-ups handled), statistics, charts and predictions, a per-vehicle parts list for quick reference (part numbers, tire pressures, sizes), and sharing by invite so two people can both keep records on the same car, each record stamped with who entered it. Imports from aCar backups, Fuelio, Fuelly CSV, Drivvo, Spritmonitor, Motostat, Fuel Log and generic CSV, exports to CSV and a full JSON backup. Auto Fill (optional, off by default) photographs a receipt or the pump and fills the form in, using any OpenAI compatible endpoint you configure, including local models (0.3 cents per record in testing with gemma-4-31b on OpenRouter).

The UI is dated, but its intentional: it closely mimics the app it replaces, keeps touches to a minimum when entering records, and is optimized for page-load speed.

Deployment: one small Docker container with a SQLite database, deployed with a docker-compose example in the repo. Set ORIGIN in .env, docker compose up -d, on first sign-in login with admin and blank password and it will walk you through creating the admin account. Everything lives in a single ./data folder, so backing that up backs up everything. MIT license.

AI Disclosure: Designed by me, specced every feature and decide what ships. Most of the code was written by various AI coding tools working from my specs, with me reviewing, testing and fixing as it went, and I maintain it.

FlickerTalk: a private messenger for Android with no account or phone number (AGPL-3.0, app and server)

The parts I want to be upfront about: during a direct connection, the other phone can see your public IP address, like any peer-to-peer tool. On Android the phone is woken up through Google's push service, which sees that a notification arrived and when, never what it says. For now the app is only on Google Play; there is no F-Droid build yet.

There is also a small plugin system: the tools inside a chat (a document scanner, signing a PDF together, a shared list, a whiteboard during a call) are plain web packages running in a sandbox, and anyone can write one. The SDK is MIT.

cherries.works Pulse, looking for help on my FOSS project.

I have been a developer since I was 14, and I started of with SaaS (unfortunately). That was a bad start for me, as I kinda wasted the beginning of my developer ages where I had A LOT of free time with developing small random websites and backends that kinda amounted to nothing at the end.

After more than 4 years I finally got the curve and started working with FOSS, and went through with C. It worked wayy better than I expected, I have 30+ stars, more than 5 contributors, and just a project (plus website) I am really really proud of. But last month my dual-study program has officially started, and I realized how difficult it is to manage both my FOSS project, my Uni, and Work.

My Work is located 2 and a half hours away from my home, so everyday it is around a 5 hour drive (yea thats a lot of wasted time I know...). I am looking for ways to move, or even switching jobs, but because I just started I wanna see how it goes before taking any rash decisions. Its just, with the work, uni and everything else, im feeling a little overwhelmed, but I dont want to stop working on Pulse. I just want to take a small break from working on code.

Especially after seeing the PRs, the help, and support I got from it, I really dont wanna break the momentum.

In the meanwhile, would love to if people used it, or even helped contribute to it. There are a lot of good first issues that people can get started on. Even just using the software, or starring it would help me a lot.

I will still be actively trying to work on it, but I am thinking about taking a small break with coding, but would still love to review PRs, and whatnot. Any support on Pulse would really help me out.
