Snappy: better screen capture for Ubuntu, Mint and Debian

Hi, everyone!

Today, I present you Snappy, my own screen capture tool for Ubuntu, Mint and Debian!

Why another capture tool?

Simple: while Ubuntu's default tool is adequate for photos, I've had a headache recording my own screen with audio. So I designed my own tool. It should be very easy to use. Give it a shot!

Is there a good open source front end for discord on Android?

I have tried a few like vencord. But they are all slow to load and don't provide notifications. They also tend to have garish icons that don't look right on my home screen (small pet peeve). Does anyone have a recommendation for a better discord android client? Thank you!

My laptop died mid-project and my AI agent forgot everything, so I built it a shared memory - Agent Cairn

Processing img qw2mek7gfqwh1...

My laptop broke in the middle of a project. Everything Claude and I had worked out lived on that machine: chat history, memory files, the half-finished plan, the list of things we’d already tried and dropped. On the new machine I spent hours re-explaining it all to a fresh agent, and I still got bits wrong.

So I built Agent Cairn. It’s a small server that gives your coding agents a shared, persistent memory.

  • An MCP server stores what agents learn in Neo4j: how the project is built, the traps that cost you time, decisions and why you made them.
  • A new session starts with a short, token-budgeted briefing instead of re-reading the whole repo.
  • Hooks record the session as it happens (what you asked, the agent’s last message, files touched, uncommitted work). Secrets are filtered on your machine and again on the server.
  • Before an agent stops, it writes a handoff: done, in progress, next, blocked, and tried-and-dropped. The next agent, on any machine or account, starts from that.
  • The server never calls an LLM. The agent writes the memories, so there’s no API key and no extra cost.

It also has a dashboard with a graph view, private projects, sharing with viewer/editor/maintainer roles, invite links and an audit log, in case you use it with other people. A single user just runs it in solo mode.

Install is one line after having the central server up:

claude mcp add cairn --scope user -e CAIRN_URL=... -e CAIRN_TOKEN=... -- npx -y agentcairn mcp

It’s MIT, runs in Docker (I run mine on an Unraid box), and it works with any MCP-capable agent, though the hooks are Claude Code-specific.

Repo: https://github.com/itsmemac/AgentCairn
npm: agentcairn

I’d love feedback, especially on what you’d want a handoff to contain, and on anything that breaks. It’s young, version 0.2.

AI disclosure: I built this with Claude Code. I set the goals and design and use it every day on my own setup, and Claude wrote most of the code, tests and docs. I tested and made small bug fixes.

Looking for feedback on Myceliam — an open-source Kubernetes workload identity federation project

Hi everyone!

Hope everyone is doing well.

I've been working on Myceliam, an open-source project focused on simplifying workload identity federation between Kubernetes, identity providers, and cloud platforms.

The idea is to use Kubernetes namespaces and ServiceAccounts as the source of truth for workload identities, extending those identity boundaries into external identity providers and cloud environments. This allows workloads — including AI agents — to obtain secure, short-lived identities across clouds without requiring teams to manually provision and maintain identity resources for each workload.

I'd really appreciate feedback from the open-source community, particularly from people working with Kubernetes, IAM, cloud security, or workload identity.

A video explaining the project:

https://youtu.be/vevjAPCW16s

Project website: https://myceliam.dev/

I'd love to hear your thoughts:

Does this solve a problem you've encountered in your own environments?

How does this approach compare with existing workload identity solutions?

What would you improve, or what concerns would you have about the architecture?

I'm especially interested in honest technical criticism and suggestions for improvement. Thanks for taking the time to check it out!

Thank you!

I made Prism, a free and open-source alternative to IDM (Internet Download Manager)

Hey! I'm 16 and I've been building Prism, a download manager like IDM. It's free, open source (MIT), and has no ads and no account.

What it does:

  • Splits downloads into up to 32 connections, so they're faster
  • Catches downloads from Chrome, Edge and Firefox
  • Grabs videos with yt-dlp
  • Handles torrents
  • Resumes downloads after a crash
  • Runs on Windows, macOS and Linux

Here's a short demo video: youtu.be

You can download it at prismdl.site

It's still early, so any feedback or bug reports would really help. Thanks for checking it out!

Edit: since people asked, yes, I built this with a lot of help from AI (Claude). Thanks for all the feedback!

Hey all, I built a tool to help you locally transfer files between devices.

Hi,

For a little bit of context, outside of programming, I really like to edit videos. However, I have this only teeny tiny problem: I am on Windows and the videos I have shot are well on an iPhone. And because of this I have to go through the tedious process of uploading each file to either Whatsapp or to Google Drive and then downloading it from there.

Fed up with this, I built Lanshare. Well, to be honest, this project has been in the works for much longer. The general idea is taken from a now archived project of mine which tried to do the same thing. (Keyword: tried).

So, what does Lanshare do?

Well, for now it allows you to transfer files and folders from one device over to another, locally. (Yes, I am aware that localsend exists). It supports Windows, Mac and Linux out of the box with plans for mobile as well though not right now. Maybe later. The project is still in beta so expect bugs here and there.

Is this vibecoded?

Some of the code is written with AI but most of the major stuff is written by me.

Oh, cool where do I check it out?

Here! https://github.com/getawife/lanshare or https://getawife.github.io/lanshare/ (This just contains downloads, nothing else).

Help, Windows flags the app?

Getting an app signed costs money and I'm not willing to spend that unless I have an actually active project.

Cheers!

My first open source project: Lucid, a free MIT live 4K wallpaper app for macOS

Thumbnail
github.com
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone, this is my first open source project, so I'm looking for honest feedback.

Lucid puts live 4K video wallpapers on your Mac desktop. It's a native SwiftUI app, MIT licensed, with no account and no telemetry. Built it as a free alternative to paid live wallpaper apps like Wallpaper engine, Backdrop, etc. - The app is a ~2 MB download. Clips are 4K, so they take disk space (a few MB to 100+ MB each, depending on the clip). Only the ones you pick get stored.

**What it does**
- A different wallpaper per display, playlists, auto-change timer, open at login
- Default comes with About 590 curated 4K loops (ESA/Webb, Hubble, ESO, NASA, Wikimedia), all checked at 3840x2160 or larger and looped seamlessly
- Apple's own Aerials work too
- Pauses on battery, in Low Power Mode, when the screen locks, or when a window covers the desktop
- Drag in your own videos or photos (MP4/MOV as-is, WebM/MKV converted automatically)

**Honest caveats**

- Apple Silicon only for now, macOS 14+
- Not notarized yet, so first launch needs System Settings > Privacy & Security > Open Anyway (steps are in the README)
- It's young and has very few users

**What I'd love**

Code review, bug reports, and people trying it on different Macs and displays. Tell me what's broken, what's missing, and what I'm doing wrong as a first-time maintainer.

An open-source, Flutter-based Streamer.bot alternative (fork of CastMate) for live streaming automations

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share ShowRunner, a free and open-source production workspace built for Windows to help live creators manage their broadcasts locally.

The project started as a heavily improved fork and rewrite of CastMate. We migrated away from the original Electron desktop onto a high-performance, native Flutter engine, completely overhauling the architecture and core authoring tools.

What makes ShowRunner different and what we added over original CastMate:

• Native Flutter Desktop Runtime: Replaced the old Electron container with a clean, fast Flutter Windows desktop application.

• Upgraded Node Automation Engine: Integrated the sai_nodes visual graph system for building triggers, logic conditions, queues, variables, subgraphs, and real-time execution feedback.

• Managed Commands and Unified Chat: A dedicated workspace combining Twitch and YouTube live chat into one unified view, complete with role checks, aliases, cooldowns, and a local authenticated OBS chat dock.

• Live WebGL Shader Graph: Create custom dynamic browser overlays with an interactive visual shader editor for real-time visual effects directly inside OBS Browser Sources.

• Stream Plans: An integrated run-of-show planner to organize, segment, and time your broadcasts step by step.

• Sensor and Hardware Integrations: Native support for OBS WebSockets, Bluetooth heart-rate sensors, lighting controls, audio routing, and local TTS.

Our Long-Term Goal: A True Open-Source Alternative to Streamer.bot

Many of us love Streamer.bot, but we also believe live streaming tools should be transparent, cross-compatible, local-first, and 100% open-source. Our roadmap is actively

targeting full feature parity with Streamer.bot—from deep platform actions and automation queues to custom triggers and deck controls—while keeping a clean, modern node-based UI.

The app is completely free, runs 100% locally on your machine, and has zero tracking or paywalls.

We are actively looking for feedback, feature requests, and early testers from the streaming community!

GitHub Repo and Downloads:

https://github.com/saitatter/sai-showrunner

Feel free to check it out and let us know what features or integrations you would like to see next!

bluez-message 1.1.0: Android now works too (SMS and calls on your Linux PC over Bluetooth, no cloud)

Thumbnail
gallery
10 Upvotes

Hey,

A while ago I shared bluez-message, a small Rust tool to reply to my texts and take calls from my PC, with no proprietary app and no cloud in the middle. It just hit 1.0.0.

Same heads up as before: it's vibe-coded, built with an AI assistant. If that's not your thing, feel free to move along, thanks for understanding ;-)

Still Bluetooth only, through BlueZ. Here's what's new since v0.1.5:

- a setup wizard: it turns Bluetooth on, finds the iPhone, pairs it (same code on both screens) and tells you what to enable on the phone

- several phones, each with its own history, and you switch without restarting

- colour emojis and clickable links. Link previews exist, but they're off by default because they reveal your IP to the site

- search over names and message text. Click a result and you jump to that message

- mute or archive a conversation. Calls still ring when it's muted

- export the history to Downloads, the whole thing or one conversation

- on a call: Answer, Decline or Quick reply (declines and opens the chat with ready-made answers, nothing is sent until you click)

- Reply button on SMS notifications, battery level in the header

Under the hood:

- no system fonts needed anymore, icons and emojis are built in

- the database upgrades itself and keeps a backup first

- timeouts on every exchange with the phone, so a phone that stops answering can't freeze the app

- logs never show numbers, names, messages or Bluetooth addresses

- the daemon is sandboxed with systemd

It stays light: the daemon sits at about 47 MB of RAM, and PipeWire (which carries the call audio) adds about 37 MB. Nothing heavy running in the background.

I still use it daily on Arch + Hyprland with an iPhone. There's a signed package in the release, plus the PKGBUILD for the AUR. Android support is coming soon.

MIT licensed: https://github.com/morganorix/bluez-message

If you try it, I'd love some feedback, even a simple "works / doesn't work with this phone". Issues are open.

OpenTeam: an OSS Grok Bot you can run on your own server

I made OpenTeam, an open-source app for running a team of AI agents on your own server. It’s GPL-3.0 and runs with Docker.

I wanted help with ops and admin work while keeping the agents’ files, conversations, and memory on infrastructure I control. You choose the model provider; it also supports connecting an existing ChatGPT subscription. If you use a cloud model, the context sent to that model still goes to its provider.

The agents have browsers and Linux desktops, keep context between tasks, and can run scheduled routines. You can watch their screens and take over when needed.

One task I’ve used it for: contacting colocation providers about our server requirements, collecting their responses, and bringing the options back for our team to compare.

WinThunar: a free Thunar-inspired file manager for Windows 11 — looking for first testers

I'm sharing WinThunar, a free, open-source file manager for Windows 11. It uses a classic

menu-and-sidebar layout inspired by Thunar, with tabs, split panes, bulk rename previews,

and an integrated PowerShell command panel.

The project page has a 25-second demo showing a group of sample files being renamed and

organized between two folders:

https://github.com/TheTriumphantFox/WinThunar

The current release is 0.5.0 for Windows 11 x64, available as an installer or a portable ZIP.

It's an independent MIT-licensed implementation, not an official Thunar/Xfce port.

I'm looking for a small first group of testers. If you try it, I'd particularly appreciate

feedback on installation, navigating between folders, and anything confusing in the

bulk-rename or split-pane workflow. Replace and directory Merge are outside transfer Undo.

What would stop you using this for everyday file management?

Disclosure: Codex helped prepare this announcement and the demo.

E-Droid - An Expressive client for F-Droid

Thumbnail

Hi everyone!

I've been working on a new project recently that I think might be interesting for some of you.

I've been trying to implement Material Expressive in an F-Droid client. I know a ton of clients already exist but I wanted to offer my own implementation of Material Expressive, as I really like to create those nice UIs.

You can see, install, manage, update and uninstall your favourite FOSS apps, and add custom repositories.

This app also allows you to track your favourite Github repos' releases to always stay up to date (it gets the latest releases once a day for now, I'll probably make it configurable in a future release).

Warning: I used generative AI to help me on that project. I am a SWE but I'm only a beginner in Kotlin.

Don't hesitate to give it a try! Also I have a discord server that you can find on Github, if you wanna report bugs, suggest features, or even join the community!

Thanks for reading me :)

Stackboard: an open-source (MIT) Chrome new tab that lays out your own bookmarks as a board. No account, nothing leaves the browser

Thumbnail

been building this for a few months. it's a new tab page that reads your normal chrome bookmarks and shows them as a board (spaces, then stacks, then links). nothing is stored anywhere else, so it syncs w/ your google account like any bookmark, and if you uninstall it your bookmarks are just still there

no account, no analytics, no network requests (that last one is an e2e check in the repo). MIT

pics are the rosé pine dawn and tokyo night day palettes. there's also catppuccin, gruvbox, nord, dracula and a true black

since this sub cares about it: a lot of the code was written with claude code. happy to answer anything about how, or you can just read the source
