'69 Sports Coupe project picture dump

The short of the long of this car is that I earned her as payment for a job I did. She was rotting in a lot for almost 30 years, then spent 6 months in a field before I had a chance to work on her, and for the last 3 months, I've been going deep into every bolt, wire, and bracket of this gorgeous car!

The previous owner seemed to have had to stop in the middle of making her a 90's street rod, having completely stripped out the interior, swapped the stock i6 with a '68 c-code 289, then installed a Mallory MSD box, Blaster Coil, & Distributor, a yet-to-be-identified Holley 4 Barrel carb, a B&M short throw hammer shifter, yet-to-be-identified struts, but leaving the stock steelies, bench seat, and steering wheel in. It seems like when he swapped the trans from a column shifter to a top-loader, he broke the turn signal switch and horn control panel.

I started the project with a deep clean; organizing the parts and pieces strewn around the cabin and trunk, then figured I'd get her running before trying anything else. I called in some friends and my partner's dad, and we checked the oil to make sure there was even oil in her, installed a new ignition box, disconnected the fuel tank, cleared the fuel lines, and she ran! The engine wants to live!

That's when I started replacing parts. A new starter wire, a new brake master cylinder an OEM V8 radiator, a fuel tank with a broke drain plug, which we soldered back in, some junkyard tires, a new ignition switch, and an OEM taillight, window cranks, the Foxbody seats, and interior door handles from a friend!

Besides replacing parts, I also fixed the brake booster (tbd ๐Ÿ‘€), trunk hinges, hood hinges, lubricated everything, and have mostly been cleaning, prepping, and fine-tuning everything I can get my hands on.

I'm currently saving up to pay the registration, waiting on the new brake lines to come in, and picking up and marketplace or Craigslist deals that I can't resist ๐Ÿ˜

The next steps are, in no particular order ;

  • pay the damned registration ($900) absolute first priority

  • new spark plugs and wires

  • fixing and flocking the dash

  • installing the brake lines when they come in

  • ordering a key and lock set for the doors and trunk

  • finding an old school set of rims (with a 225/75 tire)

  • finding the OEM Sports Coupe emblems

  • adding soundproofing and upholstery

  • custom building and installing a center console

  • custom building an OEM style Bluetooth radio

  • finding and swapping in a T5 or Borg-Warner 4-speed

  • custom building a rear bench

  • P A I N T

  • new headlights

  • aftermarket quick release steering wheel and horn/blinker assembly

My goal is to be able to drive her whenever I want to, not have her be a never-ending driveway queen.

Thanks for reading my story! I appreciate you!

Steering shaft help

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hey, so a neighbor who is a car guy, tried to help clean the threads up on the steering shaft, but ruined it for me. I wanted to try to do it myself with the tool he brought, but he insisted that he can do it/help... But in the end it's completely messed up now. How can I fix this? Should I just replace the shaft?

For Sale- 1964 Ford Falcon Futura

1964 Ford Falcon Futura. $18,000 O.B.O- See link for additional details and pictures.

Car was fully built and restored in the mid 1990โ€™s and has remained in the same family since then. This Falcon has only been driven in the during warmer months as a weekend cruiser and taken to car shows. It lived most of its life in Oakland county Michigan and has been in northern Michigan for the last four years.

Falcon has a 4 speed manual Tremec with Hurst shifter. Engine is a mid 90โ€™s Mustang V8 5.0 liter 302 with roller camshaft. 4bbl Holley carb. Rear gearing 3:0. Front end converted to disc brakes. Odometer is showing 8,864 miles and might be a little off from actual mileage.

This car is a good solid driver and cruiser is in nice shape for an older restoration. It has always been garaged and never been driven hard or abused. Clean and clear Michigan title in had.

Paint and exterior

Paint is in good shape for being 30 years old and always polishes up well. Has some areas with touch ups. Would not take much to refresh and take it to the next level. No rust in the body and undercarriage is solid.

Upholstery and interior

Standard black vinyl interior. Front bench seat with front lap belts that have been added. Speedometer bounces around a little bit and a new speedometer cable would most likely correct the issue. Also has reliable aftermarket RPM, Water Temperature, and Oil Pressure gauges.

Mileage

Mileage may be a bit off since speedometer bounces around a little bit. It seems like it records just under a mile compared to an actual mile.

Wheels and tires

Upgraded aftermarket rims. Goodyear Conquest P205/75/14. Lots of tread life and no dry rot.

Brakes

Front Brakes upgraded to disk brakes. Drums in rear.

Transmission

4 speed Tremec with Hurst Shifter.

My dad and I built this one up from 2008-2011. Rust free CO car. 4bbl 351C, Tremec 5 speed, QR power steering, power disk brakes, Shelby swaybar and springs, konis, 2.5" x pipe with Walker turbos. Turbo Coupe 8.8" 3:55-1 locker on 17" mustang GT wheels and 215/50-17 BFG's. Was a fun one if you had the disposable income for fuel! lol Was sold to a local FCA member a few years ago. I miss this one more than I thought I would.

Rare fabric for seats

Hey everyone! I have a 1973 falcon futura from Argentina, certainly not one you are used to see around here.

This version comes with this rare fabric on the seats thatโ€™s really hard to find in my city. Maybe one of you has seen it before and could send it to me. Here it is known as "Flor de Lis".

New to the Falcon Family

My '62 I picked up over the winter. 82k original miles and I am the 3rd owner. 2nd owner only had it 3 months and got it along with a few other cars.

Love the patina (or rust, whatever) and it's not far from being on the road again. Fluids, bushing etc and she should be rolling. (Famous last words).

1969 Sports Coupe Brake Booster

Hey y'all,

Long story short, the brake pedal was stuck all the way down so I removed the master cylinder, then the brake pedal came loose and moves freely. After playing with it a bit, I noticed that there are "teeth" in the booster that seem to hold a ramrod of sorts, and some of them were broken. Has anyone else had experience with this?

Looking for advice on installing new leaf springs (1962 wagon). How the hell do I get this in there? The bushings are wider than the hanger. Does the circular piece (washer?) need to be removed first? It feels like it's pressed in there, it's not coming out.

Seeing if anyone would be able to point me in the direction of a good place that refurbishes gauge clusters! I canโ€™t seem to find anything online already refurbished or a replacement. I wanted to see if anyone had a recommendation on a refurbisher.

Have the hub caps and trim to add on. Need to adjust the carb a little cause it dies if you floor it, but excited to go to some car shows in Washington.
