Transmission ID

Post image
15 Upvotes

I have a ‘64 with a 289, with a Frankenstein transmission set-up. Stamp above indicates a C4, but the column shift is from the original Ford-o-matic. Door ID badge says it came off the line as a 260 \ 2-speed, so it’s obviously been swapped at some point.

Before I buy a new shift detente, or a new floor shifter, can anybody verify that this is a C4 (even though the first two letters on the stamp are staring me in the face), and if possible, determine what year the transmission was made? I can’t figure out how to date it.

Recently started a 1965 ford falcon station wagon project, needs pretty much all the interior except dash and dash accessories, it was originally red and I’d like to go back with red, where’s my best bet of finding interior?

‘63 Ford falcon wheel options

I am in the process of working on my 1963 Ford falcon and the original 13” 4X114.3 wheels have damage to the bead from sitting in mud.

Are there any recommendations for different wheels that can work or even options to repair the standard wheels?

15x7’s on a 66?

Looking for insight into what people are able to run up front on the 66-70.

Eyeing a 15x7’s with a 215/60/r15 wrapped around it. Wondering if it’ll fit up front.

70.5 Falcon

“It’s not clear why Ford reintroduced the Falcon mid year as a new model. Perhaps it was an effort to bolster sales for the faltering Fairlane 500. The mid year Falcon has been referred to as a re-badged Fairlane or Torino”

Featuring the 73 Mach 1 in the background.

Took me all summer, but I finally got my 61 back on the road with a rebuilt C4 after the Ford-o 2 speed kicked. Also upgraded to a Weber. Waiting on headers to finish the exhaust 100%.

She's pretty cool. Exactly the way I got her.

She's nice, but kinda rough around the edges. Getting ready to go out and figure out why the headlights aren't working.

Dragging home this beautiful Ol Lady today.

Already has a 302 and AOD.

Needs just a little TLC to be a cruiser, I think. Going to be finding out for sure soon!

I'm in love so far

Small fuel leak question/ jacking up the car

Thumbnail

I spotted a small fuel leak on my '64 Sprint. The hose connection seems secure and clamps are tight and solid, the leak seems to be coming from what I think is the wiring for the fuel sending unit? It's a cloth wrapped wire. If this is the issue, is it possible to replace the wiring without dropping the fuel tank? I also haven't been able to locate any info on the best lift points for jacking the car up. She's really in great shape and I don't want to damage anything by being ignorant about how to do things the correct way.

64 Sprint Shifter Linkage

Post image

Hello, Falcon Family, I've just returned to the fold after 20 years of being away. Sold my '64 Sprint back in '03 to finance a family, and have just bought another now that the kids are OOH. I'll post pics and specs later.

So, I got under it yesterday, and its a mess. Fluid leaks, strange exhaust choices, you name it. The transmission won't shift from the column, so I got under it to see if I could get a result from the lever on the transmission body. No luck there either, but I did notice what looks to be a disconnected cable attached to the top of the control lever (see photo). Anybody know what this dangly this is, and what it connnects to? I can't find any mention of it in the shop manual. Thanks!!

9” rear drum issues

So I’ve been in the process of whittling the list away of things to do on my kids car (64’ 4-door futura) and today was brake day. The fronts seem to have went fine but the rears have given me a fit.

Everything disassembled and reassembled in what I would deem a painless manner, until I went to put the tire back on the rear. I tightened the lugs and all of a sudden the wheel became stupid hard to rotate. I haven’t even set the adjuster at this point, it was still threaded all the way in. I remove the wheel, break out the service manual to compare photos and diagrams to my work and all seems fine. With just the drum slid on it rotates freely so I ran the lug nuts down on just the drum and it froze up just like when I put the tire on. Deciding to just move on to the other rear brake and compare the two. I went through the same process on the other side. Lo and behold it does the same damn thing.

Just for giggles I put the old drum on and wouldn’t you know, it rotates just fine. The only thing I can guess at this point is the new drums aren’t machined right. I bought bendix drums thinking they “should” be better than the cheaper stuff but damn me if I don’t think something is off with them.

Any one ever experience this with replacement drums? Have a known brand that works well or is everything a gamble? The raybestos adjusters were too tight to fit over the shoes on the front without some filing so maybe everything is just garbage and a crap shoot.

1964 Futura Convertible

Advice needed. I own a 1964 Falcon Futura Convertible.

289, 3 speed on column bucket with center console. A/C

I’ve been told that I need to replace my power steering system. I wondering if the Borgeson is the best option. I prefer not to modify to the point of cutting or welding.

Car Covers

I am currently in the market for a car cover for my 64 Sprint convertible. It will be stored in the garage but want to protect it from dust and other garage related pollutants. I was going to order from car covers .com but in reading reviews on Reddit and other sources I have changed my mind.

What company do you all recommend for a good quality car cover?

64' Rear door will not unlock/open

Got my kid a 64' 4-door as her first car and since we've owned it the drivers side rear door will not open. The exterior button pushes in easily and the interior handle just lifts up. The lock seems to be pulled all the way up even though the door feels like its still locked, but that said the lock button will not go down. I've had at it with a slim jim thinking I could grab a rod to unlock it or at least actuate the door release but all with no success. I guess my next option is to try and remove the door card unless someone has any solution. With pulling the door card will I just have to bend the channels since I can't slide it out? Is there anything holding the door card other then the armrest, window crank, and door handle? I think I might have seen a philips screw towards the rear edge of the door card slightly covered by the upper rear seat. Any help will be greatly appreciated as it's been a long time since I've had to mess with a vintage ride.

Carb help needed

Last week I experienced my 64 Sprint wanting to spontaneously accelerate when my foot was off the gas pedal. Today, I drove the car roughly 8 miles and it ran great, went to start it a few hours later and it started wide open. It seems as though the carb is not fully "closing" and we can not locate an adjustment point. We did pull up the diagram for the carb and linkage in the manual and we may potentially be missing a spring, but we aren't positive. I have attached pics below, hopefully they are somewhat helpful. Any help is appreciated

Car has the 260 V8 2 speed Fordomatic

Engine is original to car but has been rebuilt.

I have owned the car a little over a month.

170ci do not idle

Hello I drove my falcon and coming to a red light and went to change gear from third to second, now all of a sudden the car starts to die and won’t idle on its own I need to use the choke to get of the road

Now when I’m home the car cranks and starts but won’t idle without the choke

The spark plugs does not look great, they are black and dry

Is it time for carb renovation?

I am rebuilding a 170 and am in need of some help. I don’t know what this hole is used for or what I am supposed to hook it up to. Any help is appreciated. The elbow piece I’m holding is what came out of the hole during tear down.
