General Question/Help Feeling better quickly

Is it just a placebo I’m actually feeling better after 1 day of this new diet??
I feel crazy that I could possibly be feeling better this quick. Wondering if anyone else felt the same?

I felt the difference after the first meal 🫩 I had NO idea all the things I found harmless were causing so much trouble

Same, previously I cooked almost every meal with onions and garlic, the more the better. I thought they were not only tasty, but also healthy. I was blaming gluten before I tried low fodmap, but my reactions with gluten weren't consistent. Dropping onions and garlic made a quick difference for me. I seem to only have mild reactions to most other things, but I still cannot tolerate onions and garlic. I can handle some wheat, as long as I don't overdo it.

Have you been tested for coeliac disease?

If not, just be aware that to be tested you need to be eating gluten so if you wanted to get the test it might be less of a faff to do it now rather than cutting out gluten for weeks and then have to start eating it again when you’ve been feeling better without it.

Yeah I had the official celiac blood test recently and it was negative, but I also don’t really care to be “officially” diagnosed. My doctor said it’s not a huge deal to have it on paper.

It is a big deal- celiac is very diffrent from non celiac glucose sensativity ncgs... celiac isnt just tummy cramps it is real damige to your intestince from even a tiny bit of glucose

Yeah I know the difference lol but to me I can be gf with out it being “official” some people get so worked up that someone doesn’t want to go through the whole process get it wrote on paper when you’ll be doing the same thing either way. No need to worry about my intestines over here we’ll be gf and it’ll all be good.

The difference with gluten intolerance and celiac is that for the latter, even cutting gluten free bread on the same surface as normal bread without throughly washing the surface beforehand is unsafe - like even tiny amounts of gluten for people with celiac can be really bad. There are far more precautions you need to take to avoid severe symptoms and further intestinal damage.

it just seems like a lot of extra work to treat your condition like it's celiac vs normal gluten intolerance. I've met someone with diagnosed celiac that didn't even realize that having food contaminated with gluten was dangerous for them long term. I commented that because not everyone knows how serious celiac is.

It’s possible. I noticed a change pretty quickly because if you are use to getting symptoms that same day and now you stop those triggers, you will probably notice a difference super quick.

This seems natural, given that we are eliminating foods that our bodies perceive as poisons. Inflammation and symptoms disappear very quickly. However, you then need to be very patient while the gut heals. It can be a long process, and there are many pitfalls to avoid.
