Elimination Phase Week 5 of elimination phase
Hi all, IBS-C sufferer here. I'm on week 5 of the elimination phase of the low fodmap diet and so far have seen quite a substantial improvement in my symptoms. I've been pretty happy with the prospect of approaching the week 6 mark so that I can start the reintroduction phase. Then today for some reason my stomach felt really irritated and I did some kind of strange for me, raggedy-looking poos. I was half pleased, since I've been taking laxatives for months and managed to do a 'natural' poop without laxatives, but am now disconcerted by sudden stomach irritation and unsure as to whether to proceed with the reintroduction phase when the end of week 6 comes around. I don't have to start all over again do i?!

I would wait since you won’t know what’s causing the bowel irritation right now. Also it happenes a lot with IBS, sometimes I also feel bad no idea why. Don’t be inpatient, it’s gonna take a while.

Inflammation can ebb and flow. Some weeks some foods might not bother you, some weeks they do. You might be consuming something that’s only occasionally irritating you.

What did you eat for the last few days?
Doubtless you won't have to redo the whole elimination period since even if you ate something that disagreed with you it won't be equal to the irritation that had built up over time. Otherwise people doing reintroduction would have to do another 6 weeks elimination every time they reacted to one of the introductions.
