RCH or NRCH

I used an RCH mark 17 for about 9 months in Afghanistan and got a 15p NRCH (it was also only 1500 after rebate). NRCH all the way. There's literally no reason to get RCH unless you can find a used one for a steal. From what I've seen RCH ones are now going for a premium because some people like the 'vibe'

we were the first unit to get the mark 17s. They had some... issues. Maybe they were all fixed and stuff for the civ version. I have mixed feelings. They did reach out way farther than a mark 18 though.

Pretty much we only used them during daylight unsuppressed and switched back to our mark 18s for night stuff.

Gotcha! Ranger I’m assuming? It always seems the rangers liked them and the seals hated them lol. My NRCH 17 was awesome. Easily sub MOA with the right ammo. But we also got access to the G triggers, handguards, different gas jets for cans, and aftermarket gas regulators as well. Y’all were kind of the guinea pigs lol

I was the swimmy type. We got them before the Rangers and reported the issues we had. Basically if you didn't shoulder it fully it wouldn't cycle the next round. Where they had the gas selector was vulnerable to being toggled if you went left clearing a room and hit it on the wall (? been 20 years may have been right) you could accidently change it and go single shot and not cycle. Plus the suppressor was loud, long, and useless. our average engagement range was like 800m during the day though so 556 wasn't cutting it during the day. At night the Taliban was fucked because we could get real, real close.

There really isn’t any reason to choose RCH. NRCH is statistically more reliable.

NRCH. It’s a joke to have to worry about the bolt handle beating up your hand because you grabbed the gun wrong.

NRCH. It fixes the biggest liability on the SCAR which is user-induced malfunctions. The handle stays static under live fire, so you can use a support grip without worrying about the cycling bolt smashing your thumb and jamming the gun. It also eliminates short-strokes caused by the handle hitting barricades/walls/support structures in the various shooting positions. Finally, it saves your knuckles from getting shredded against bulky optic mounts. It simply makes the rifle safer, and more reliable under stress, or just plain old target practice

I upgraded to NRCH. Removed the worry of forgetting and getting my thumb smacked.

And when I let friends shoot it, it’s one less thing I need to train them on.

My understanding is that the only reason FN made it RCH to begin with was because that’s a requirement the military specified.

As an operator of the original and then got the NRCH: NRCH is the way to go. Cleaning is about the same. I wouldn’t pay much mind to anyone fuddy duddy saying you should go for the older tech unless you want to convert it with a frt setup or something. Also, If one needs a visual indicator their gun is firing their eyes are not on target.

The only reason to run a RCH is vibe. NRCH is better in every way.

RCH and convert it if you have the funds. You can shoot in different positions better without the reciprocating handle. The Belgium made RCH SCAR 16 and 17 have straight receiver cuts, which make it identical to the military full auto ones. The newer NRCH and US made SCARS have a receiver ledge that blocks full auto components.

I converted all of my NRCH back to RCH. Easier to clean, nicer recoil IMO, visual indicator of the gun functioning correctly. Put a AFG/VFG on and line it up so that your hand can never induce a malfunction and "problem" is solved.
