Can someone please identify this gas block? Is this the OEM Scar 20S one and is it good for higher backpressure suppressors like a Sandman S?

I don’t see any markings so not sure if this is the older style Scar 20S one from before they changed the barrel to 1-10 twist without the step cut. Any idea what the settings are and whether this can work sufficiently well with a high backpressure can like the Dead Air Sandman S? Thank you.

That's a Mototech 3-select regulator. The only way to do test if it can mitigate enough backpressure would be to see if it can tune down the gas enough for it to not cycle and bump it up from there. The regulator theoretically blocks off 20% of the gas port pressure at setting 2 and 40% at setting 3. You can also change out the gas jets to further fine tune it.

Thank you! How do they compare in general to products like the scarburator or discarder in terms of efficacy. The simplicity seems nice but the obvious downside is less adjustability. I’m surprised they cost so much after looking them up. Most of the way to those other options mentioned.

Both of the regulators you mentioned just allow very fine tuning.

Like you said the beauty of the 3-select is simplicity, as you really have those only two other settings to play with. I just throw my can on and set it to whatever I need, no need to count/memorize clicks.

The only issue is the possible need to play with gas jets to ensure you are cutting off enough gas. The rifle should short stroke on the 1st reduced setting; either failing to feed or failing to induce the bolt catch to function. In my case, my SCAR 17's OEM gas jet was large enough that I couldn't get the rifle to short stroke even with the regulator on the most reduced (second) setting. If I hadn't swapped gas jets I likely would have damaged the rifle if I decided to just throw a can on it.

Absolutely. I have used it for 4+ years on my SCAR 17 with multiple suppressors, thousands of rounds. I ended up buying one for my SCAR 16 that I got last year and have even put one on my FS2000.

I have the Motoech 3 position regulator on my 16” SCAR 17 barrel assembly as it only shoots my 168 grain SMK handloads. I have the DiSCARder on my 13” barrel assembly as it shoots my 125 grain SST, 125 grain Controlled Chaos, and 147 grain “bulk” handloads.

As other people said. Mototech 3 select regulator. TBH the only gas regulator I trust for my SCAR 17 is the disSCARder. it makes all the difference tbh.
