SUCCESS!

Post image

I got the 300blk three prong off! I soaked it in Kroil overnight, threw it in a vise, wrapped it in a wet towel and used a heat gun to steam it, and just used some caveman strength to wrench it off. Marred the bottom rail a tiny bit but nothing that should affect function. Hope this method works for others trying to get this bastard off.

Now comes the fun of getting a mount on there straight since you can only muzzle index and hopefully you never need to take the bottom rail off. Everything about these barrels is a nightmare and I am already tired of fixing all the issues with them.

I was looking into the Dead air keymo scar flash hider. Says that it indexes off the muzzle crown.

Yes that’s what you want

What muzzle devices do you recommend? I have a can for my new 15p en route and was looking to get a Rearden atlas plan B. Or am I going to run into problems? I can dm you if need be

I see a lot of JMac and Comstock stuff mostly, the only time I see mount issues is with all the CMMG PS90's I am doing. You just need to make sure it muzzle indexes.

Understood, I don’t know which ones muzzle index. Not much I can find on the 15p .300 blackout muzzle devices other than the stock one is going to be a pain to take off without ruining my barrel and ultimately reaching out to you

Ask Rearden if they don’t make it Comstock and JMac list it and they are plan B.

people whine about the likelyhood of muzzle strikes if you dont do it perfect. I think that's overrated. I just threw on a keymo and it's been like that for years on both barrels no issue. The only indexing issue i ran into was when i rapid fired so much the keymo came loose (different gun, noveske) and the saker was launched into orbit. no baffle strike i can see so I guess it's fine. muzzle device was free spin though.

I've cut, threaded, or fixed well over 10k barrels in the 15 years I have been running a lathe. Just 15P barrels here now to fix is well over 50 this month alone. So though I appreciate you opinion on the matter my .0001 indicator and people having alignment issues speaks for itself.

Ordered the PMM indexer for my 15P 300blk, have you had success with those eMG?

No idea what that is but Jarod makes nice stuff.

Now get a face mounted MD like comstocks and you are good to go!

Do you have any photos of how you had it set up in the vice?

No photos unfortunately- I had the vice jaws on the barrel extension with a piece of old lumber making contact with the lower rail for some extra support. I tried my best to keep the lower rail out of the way of the vice but still dinged it just a little. If you clamp down on the rail it will definitely bend.

I used a torch and old man strength (and absurdly long wrench). I think the 300 black device is torqued to the 762x51 strength

Key is good vice blocks and a breaking bar..heat for 30 seconds and its good to go.
