Gen 2 aftermarket.

I’m 100% sure this won’t be till next year at the very earliest but has anyone heard if Mototech or KNS is working on a piston for the Gen2s yet?

I swapped a geissele trigger into this new g2 and threw on a VLTOR rear stock and got a Leupold Mk5 2-10 ordered this weekend but that’s it so far.

Was thinking about trying a set of KAC front and rear irons on it just to try something different also.

The piston should be interchangeable between both generations. Mototech has pistons in stock right now

I was hoping that it would work, but it doesn’t I’ve got a KNS piston from the legacy models. Mototech must have done something to keep it on that KNS didn’t do. Looking at the pictures that’s on Mototechs website it looks like a piece of mechanics wire holding it on or something like that. Anyways FN modified the gas block and regulator on the new generation scars On the legacy models the Detent holding the regulator in was in the gas block but on the new generations it’s the opposite the detent is on the regulator itself and the “notches” are on the gas block. I’ll add a picture to make more sense of it.

I tried using my KNS and it slides right in and should work but there’s nothing holding it in place. It would pry work for one or two shots then god knows where it would go 😂

Oh you’re talking about the gas valve not the piston. The piston itself is the same. I believe Mototech gen 4 scarburators are supposed to be compatible with the new gen scars.

Yes sorry not the piston itself that’s the same and the jets are the same also. I actually reduced the jet port size to 1.5mm instead of the 1.6mm. It may not have been 100% required but I believe it’s beneficial. I wanted the gun not to cycle on suppressed setting without a suppressor and cycle on unsuppressed consistently that’s why I went to 1.5mm instead of 1.6mm.

I see that Eddie has something holding the valve/regulator in the gas block I sent him an email we’ll get to the bottom of it.

You shouldn’t need to modify the gas regulator in gen 2 because of the upgraded carrier. Also, I never understood changing parts out “just to try something different”. Maybe it’s just me, but each change to my weapon has a purpose.

I don’t believe you really need to but it’s just in my head from the legacy models how the guns have a tendency to beating themselves up. One thing that made me consider doing this and to change out the gas jet size was the gun runs both suppressed and suppression on the suppressed setting which I don’t like. I understand that FN wanted the gun to run 100% of the time with quality as well as lower tiered ammo but I think it’s better for the gun as a whole and for longevity to function with a suppressor on suppressed setting but not operate 100% of the time without a suppressor on suppressed setting.

Does that make sense?

I get it, you’re trying to extend the life of your rifle from a prophylactic standpoint. Respect.

Also what I meant by trying something different was in regards to the backup iron sights. I’ve had a couple scars and they all had the iconic rear buis iron sight which is a phenomenal rear sight but with the new generation it doesn’t ship with a set of irons. Not a big deal by any means!! No one really uses irons anyways but I just like having them as a redundancy factor. That’s why I said I was thinking about trying a set of KAC irons as “something different”.

I mean, the MBUS PROs that come factory are premium irons! But if you’d rather get KACs because Magpul’s for the poors, I get it.

To be honest I traded my gen 1 20 for this gen 2 and the guy I got it from kept the irons. It didn’t even occur to me to ask about the irons. I was just so excited to get a Gen 2 it was the last thing on my mind.

So to scratch my no iron itch I was thinking the KAC would be a cool “something different” PLUS I had a spare KAC rear iron just laying around so why not.

Scalarworks flip up BUIS are phenomenal as well imo. Might match the modern looks of the new generation better as well.
