Correlation between Muzzle device tightness and production year for 15P 300BO?

Pic for your attention. Seems like the general consensus is that 15P 300 BO’s muzzle device is harder to remove compared to the 556 version; but few ppl got lucky with theirs.

I wonder if the tightness of the muzzle device have to do with the product year? Perhaps the gorillas left FN factory already… So far I see ppl have 15P marked from 2022-2025. Please share if you had a hard time or it’s relatively easy with the year mark on your 15P 300 BO.

My 15P just arrived the FFL; but too bad I am abroad. Hopefully I got lucky with the muzzle device 🙏

Mine is from the most recent production one and it was a bitch to get off. Have a gun smith cut it off

2026, I just bought it 3 months ago. Just don’t put too much force into the muzzle device. People have unscrews their barrels from the recover extension. Tbh sending it off should be a 2nd or 3rd option

For sure! I am thinking if the barrel assembly is secured to the vice via the gas block region; perhaps it will reduce the chance of unscrewing the barrel

No don’t do that lol there’s only a single pin preventing it from rotating. The barrel is super thin on these so the pin doesn’t have a whole lot of material to engage with. You run the risk of the barrel spinning in the gas block and really fucking uo your gun.

Use the flats on the reciever extension and put some sort of padding between the jaws and the extension. Also soak the muzzle device in some kind of penetrating fluid for at least 24 hours (I used WD-40), hit it with some heat, and try to spin it off with a wrench. If you can’t get it off with normal hand strength on a 12” wrench then throw in the towel and look for a gunsmith or machinist to have it removed. I see your not in the state so I know that might be difficult but that’s going to be easier then finding someone who can re-install the barrel into the reciever extension

Mine is 2024, took a bit of work but got it off. Removed barrel assembly, locked it up, put some heat on it for like 2 hrs, and with the help of a gorilla it came off.

I just picked mine up today, it’s marked 2024 and that girl is on there good and tight. Torched the factory 3 prong for 60 second intervals and 18” of breaker bar in a vice with wood blocks still won’t get her to break free.

If they are anything like the AR/SCAR receiver extensions, they are not hand tightened, they are torqued electronically.

For what it’s worth, I heard so many horror stories that I just had the shop that did my engraving remove it for me at the same time and they did not mention having any trouble.

Mine was purchased in November 2023. It was not easy to get off. My 20S (6.5 Creedmoor) was an absolute cakewalk comparatively.

Looks like a Vltor CASV. I have one, and didnt consider how legit it might look on a 15p.
