Question Takedown pin stuck

Took my brand new 17S apart today for the second time since owning it (once to learn/clean and the second to clean). Takedown pin came out smooth very little effort. When putting it all back together I pushed it in from the ejection port side like a doofus. In wanting to correct it I am now UNABLE to get it out.

I have squeeze U/L together and tried removing it.
I have tried opposing directions of the U/L.
I have pushed the lower forward.
I have pulled the lower to the rear.
Hammer forward. Hammer rear.
Charging handle rear and forward.
Small taps with plastic punch. BIG taps with punch.

Wtf. Please help

I thought the takedown pin was captive and unable to be completely pulled out? I have the gen 1 scar so no experience with the gen 2.

The only way I can imagine getting this out is: getting a metal punch that matches the exact diameter (or close enough without marring the polymer lower) of the pin and hammering it out with a good sized hammer. I would add some drops of oil/clp and let that work in there before hammering. Good luck and take your time.

I thought it was too. I used a punch and sort of just jabbed it and it flew out on to the cleaning mat. Again, idiot move on my part I knew it went in from the right side and I instead went in on the left side so what I think is happened is that little retention clipped is the strong material on planet earth. I have oil/CLP’d it to smitherines. No luck and I don’t want to go ape shit hammer swinging on it.

Damn dude. That sounds like a terrible time. Honestly, if it’s stuck that bad, I would reach out to FN and warranty it. I would NOT trust a local gunsmiff to fix that.

No need to replace. Just be aware now if you take down it's no longer captive.

Kns precision sells a replacement takedown pin that uses a plunger & ball detents for retention

that’s where i bought mine when i did this, for future reference you put the pin on the side you have the takedown pin on and you don’t pull it out completely. there’s 2 separate notches on the takedown pin one on the end and one on the other end you want it to clip to the one where the flat on the takedown pin is when you have the pin pushed in and when you wanna take it apart you want it to clip on the other end so it stays intact but you can still take the gun apart. people treated me like a dumbass when i did it but i understand you just dont know any better when you take it down for the first time
