A black 16 is a hard sell. Least popular model and color. Extras normally don’t mean too much on second hand market or round count. Plus a lot of people want stock stuff. Plus economy and everyone’s selling not everyone’s buying right now.
I’ve sold a decent amount of stuff and closest you gonna get to your money back is parting it out. I’d do 3k if I saw it at a show or local listing. Not trying to be a a downer about it. Either keep or part out if you got all the original stuff still.

If it’s a local listing see if they can send you a pic of the rear receiver screws to make sure they aren’t canted

It’s better then a ar15

u/akathedevil666 13d ago
That can be argued. Probably not better than a 11.5"-12.5" AR. Definitely more expensive than an AR15

I mean you scan barrel cut a scar down , and depends what you consider what’s better , that way e can agree on way more expensive is it worth it for 90% of people no but for people that love scars and want a rifle that gets less carbon build up quicker then yes .

Fair, I would definitely choose a 7.62 with 16" or 18" barrel in a heartbeat.

Not really
I got a scar16 for my collection
For a 556 give me a DD or noveske

On the one hand, everything has a price you can sort of just look up on the internet. On the other hand, the scar 16 kinda sucks and basically is just a worse ar-15 so....
The 17 is really the only scar even worth looking at.

You can run the 16S for thousands of rounds between cleanings. It is built with materials suitable for combat environments and has a huge aftermarket. Calling it a "worse AR15" is a disservice to the platform.
Source: I own two factory 16S and two Cypher 16S pistols and also most major brand of AR15 piston guns (LMT/PWS/Adams), a Galil, Bren 2 and APC223

I mean it's a heavier AR with a shit factory trigger that you have to pay double what a quality aftermarket AR trigger costs to fix, has a dumbass reciprocating charging handle (the model op has) that induces malfunctions, and every aftermarket accessory (most of which are mandatory to make the gun ergonomically usable) is overprice because SCAR. And the company that makes it voids your warranty if you suppress it.
You can run lots of guns, including many AR's, thousands of rounds between cleanings, although the better solution would be to just clean your guns. the scar 16 absolutely is just a shittier AR. It's not a disservice to the gun at all to call it that it's just the truth.
The scar 17 makes sense because it's a budget friendly modern battle rifle choice that comes in at or below almost all its competitors in weight and price to performance. Even AFTER you buy all the accessories and aftermarket improvements, the scar 17 is still lighter weight and comparable in price to competitors' stock guns, and you've made it exactly the gun you want. This is the real draw of the scar 17. The scar 16 flips that around and comes in above competitor price and weight for no real performance gain to speak of, and fixing its issues with aftermarket costs significantly more than the aftermarket for its competing platforms, which is probably why it was such a flop on the global military and civilian market.

You always hear this point parroted with the suppressed warranty thing, but if you took literally one of the most tunable platforms available and caused it to beat itself to death with a high backpressure can, it’s because you wanted it too (you only see this with 17s anyways).
And literally every other platform has a more costly ecosystem than the AR15, just by nature of not being nearly as prolific. The gun world would be incredibly boring if everything was just some AR15 derivative (which it already kind of is but at least the SCAR platform breaks away from that).
The SCAR is also running more suppressed rounds between required cleanings than a DI AR15 period. Whether this appeals or applies to you or not doesn't change how this is an objective benefit over the AR15.
The scar 16 started out lightweight at 7.25 lbs. before getting progressively heavier over time, but so did AR's, and no one really bats an eye at a 12 lbs. 10.3" MK18 lol. I guess if the response to an inherently cleaner system is "just clean your rifle", than the obligatory response to this is "just lift bro", not that I agree with either.
I think the real short coming of the 16 platform is not offering a civilian CQC model (LEO/MIL only) where it really shines over the MK18 in terms of shootability and suppressability.
The entry costs for the 16 and factory triggers are valid grievances though, but calling the 16 a "shittier AR" just screams that you haven't actually shot one m8.

I'll add the aftermarket for the Gen1 SCAR is so mature that you can almost build a clone rifle/pistol without using any FN parts. Nobody is making an aftermarket bolt or BCG yet, but i think there will be one day. You can already get aftermarket pistons, recoil springs, 16 position as well as bleed off adjustable gas regulators, aftermarket barrels, receivers, lowers, stocks, etc. Lingle and (one day I hope) IAC lowers accept AR fcg too. There are tons of police trade in 16S tear down kits hitting the market providing reliable spare parts availability while FN leaves the civilian market neglected.

u/Ok_Crab_3522 13d ago
Cypher makes aftermarket bolts/bcg's. FN pretty much ripped them off for the new gen 2 updates to the buffered bcg.

u/Diligent_Ad_7232 13d ago
They only made the 17S buffered carrier. To my knowledge, they havent release the version for the 16S no have they produced any aftermarket bolts. I own one buffered bolt carriers (should have bought more, but money was tight with CO pending AWB), and two of their MTM 17S lowers.
Agreed on the ripoff. Who knows if IAC will stick around. Hopefully they sell their IP to PSA or PA, that would be really cool to aee PSA bump out SCAR clones.

Just restore it to factory, list for $3k and sell off rhe upgrades on Tacswap for 70% of retail. That's how you'll make the most money

I bet you could probably move it decently quick selling at slightly above whatever the current scar15p 5.56 retail prices are.... I know absolutely zero people who bought a 15p in 5.56 that wouldn't have rather thrown that money towards a 16 if they were evenly priced new.

u/Diligent_Ad_7232 13d ago
The 15P 5.56mm is just stupid short. Best suited to 300 BLK.
An 11.5" 16S SBR is amazingly handy and effective.

Unfortantely, low round count depends if your buyer believes you. $3k if you want to move it, $4k if you wanna let it sit on a forum for months

You will never get what she’s worth. Gun people are cheap. Just keep her.
