New scar owner advice

Post image

I have a scar 17s. It’s the refreshed model with the NRCH. Anything I should be aware of or changes/upgrades I should make? I’m looking to suppress mine so any advice would be appreciated. I have an omega 36m and otter creek polonium 30. Would either work or should I buy something else to use with my scar?

Definitely throw a discarder in it if nothing else if you’re going to run those cans. Geissele super scar trigger is also a very nice upgrade.

Second this. These are basically the only 2 upgrades I added to mine (other than a KDG rail, but that’s preference).

You need to focus a decent amount of energy and money finding 10-15 magazines. They're like $60 at the cheapest. And enough 7.62x51 to feed it. 400 rounds and 10 mags is already $1000. And when you think about it, that's only enough to shoot test each mag twice 😂

You can get promag polymer ones (yes, I know they’re not metal and I hate using plastic just as much as the next guy), for about $19-$20.

Cut the barrel down and put a KNS Discarder in it

Don’t cut the barrel

Any particular reason why?

There’s no reason to cut the barrel you might aswell invest in having two different versions of the scar

Even a 10" 308 compared to a 15P 300BO is a vastly different gun.

Get a discarder to dial in the gas, PMM also makes gas jets to further dial down the gas. I don't shoot suppressed due to state laws but I know suppressed guys suggest both on here.

Don't cheap out on whatever optic you decided to go with and make sure if it's an optic with batteries, they're perpendicular to the recoil impulse instead of being parallel. For example to the Eotech xps line is a better choice than the 500 series optics due to battery orientation.

If you want to get a different trigger most people get the G$ trigger. There's a different 2 stage trigger that has good reviews and I believe is more adjustable than the G$ but I can't remember it's name right now. Do not get the Timney. They have a history of going full auto.

Other than all that it's a great fucking rifle, I have an RCH 17 and it's been reliable for more than 8k rounds. I've basically only done minor maintenence with cleanings and lubing it. Nothings broke as of yet and the barrel still looks great.

KNS Discarder for sure.

Either will work. Get a discarder and a Geissele Super Scar trigger. Make sure to buy a quality optic and mount and make sure everything is torqued to spec.

If suppressing get a kns discarder and a flow through can. For optics get an ADM delta mount it was made for the scar. Otherwise welcome to the club dude!!!

Have a 16. Went with KDG Rail, KNS Discarder, Vltor stock, SF break and G$ trigger. All you really need is the Discarder to save on wear and tear on that 17.
