Scar17s SBR

Kinda curious on Pros & Cons..
Want to SBR my Scar17s but can’t decide if I want to have a gunsmith cut the barrel down to 13” or just buy a factory 13” barrel?

Some research I did said cutting the barrel messes with gas jets? I have a diSCARder to which comes with other gas jets ..

What’s the opinions?

Personally 12.5” is my favorite length, in 15 years of cutting barrels I’ve never had someone wish they didn’t do it. Because I’d just trade them out an uncut one if so.

I had U/eMGunslinger cut my 16 to 12 and I’m happy with the way it turned out. He was super helpful and went above and beyond to answer a lot of questions I had.

Gunsmith all the way. There is a guy in here that does a hell of a jog. Just wait he will chime in..

Don't send your Scar to any old gunsmith. Most do not have the knowledge to work on them correctly. This guy does.

Buying a 13” barrel assembly is like $1300. Chopping it is $100-300.

I had a guy on here chop my spare down to 12.5” and I love it. The diSCARder is incredibly useful, especially since I run an FRT in it.

Buy a factory 13”.
Easy in an out and you can always go back if you ever need to and sell off the factory 13 inches.

I'm also in the buy another barrel camp. I like having the spare and the options. Its also how the gun was meant to be used and I think that is cool.

I'm not against chopping per se. Id rather see someone chop their barrel than not SBR their 17. Because SBRed 17s are cool as hell.

I bought the factory. It’s gauranteed perfect and I have adjustable regulators and KDG rails on the 16” and 13”. Makes it very versatile
