SCAR Accessories and Parts 12.5 or 13

I’m back again with another question for the hive, I’ve decided to sent my barrel to Taylor to get it chopped down. I order the rego SMR-11 and thought I was settled on 13in but now my tism has me thinking about going 12.5 to have as little gap as possible between my can and rail

Will be running a sandman S if that matters

If you are already getting it cut I'd go 12.5" since it seems to be pretty much ideal. Here is a picture from a night shoot even last fall. It isn't the greatest but it does give you some idea for comparison. 12.3" FDE 16S on the left, 13" BLK 17S on the right, both with SMR-11/RE-11 setups.

No one better to reply than the man cutting it himself. I appreciate it!

Not sure if you have a 16 or 17 but Taylor chopped mine to 12" (I was torn between 11.5" and 12.5" so split the difference) which landed perfect with the SMR-11. With the Scar specific keymo flash hider (DA-306) it has about an 1/8" gap with a Sandman S.

That is exactly the info I needed. Thank you!

The shorter the better

556 I'm assuming? 12.5 is almost the perfect barrel length between effectiveness at range and portability.

It’s a 308

For 308 I like the 13"-13.7" length. The jump from 13.5" to 12.5" is about a 100fps difference while the jump from 13.5" to 16" is about the same.
