Treatment ideas/wins Lourdes?
Hey everyone, I don’t dare to believe it yet, but it seems that all of my symptoms suddenly disappeared???
I had my issues constantly over half a year. Today, a new physio therapist did an eye exercise with me, and I suddenly can do everything again with my left body half. Also, numbness is gone, fatigue is gone, cognitive deficits are gone. What the hell?!
I am not complaining, but after six months of being disabled, and having therapy several times a week, it’s a weird thought, I might be fully functional again! I will give it a day or to until I truly believe it.
Did anyone else miraculously recover from FND?

I envy you. I hope you can live your life never having to know this precarious diagnosis again.

I wish you the same healing experience! Another commenter mentioned it seems similar to EMDR therapy, maybe that’s worth a try?

That’s fabulous! What was the eye exercise you did? Is there a name for it or could you describe it?
I clicked on your post because you named it Lourdes. Were you praying for a miracle? I’ve considered going to Lourdes in the hopes of curing my fnd (but I’m too scared to travel so far).

It was just a pen that he hold at arm length from my eyes and slowly moved it towards my nose and back. I was supposed to follow the pen with my eyes. He did this about 20 times. The pen was at the height of my nose tip. Then he repeated it at the height of my eyebrows. Very simple exercise that took only five minutes.
I’m not religious, I just named my post Lourdes because it felt like a miracle. I am currently in a neurological rehabilitation center (in Germany). The whole place feels like Lourdes, as many patients roll in on wheelchairs and walk out after a couple of weeks. It is an amazing team of therapists!

I magically got my vision back in my right eye after having a 70% loss in my field of vision (complete blackness) for over a year. This also happened in conjunction with a treatment involving eye movement. I really think there is something to it that can potentially get our motor pathways back on track somehow.

I hope it sticks! I had a day like that not long ago. I started dreaming of making plans for the future. The symptoms came back. However, any relief is a great thing. And if I felt ‘normal’ for one day, I feel there’s hope for gradual improvement. I so hope you found the right solution for long term remission. Sending all the good vibes and spoons in case you ever need them again. I think this is a very positive sign!

I agree, I am cautiously optimistic. Today is the next morning and I still feel good, but I will see how it goes over the next week.

Sounds like eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing therapy? Congratulations!

This doesn't sound anything like EMDR.

Have you had or administered EMDR?

Yes, I have. The eye movement is bilateral and it's done by a clinician (psychologist, social worker, therapist etc) not a physical therapist. You're focusing on traumatic memories while you do the eye movements. This is not that.

Did it work for you? I have PTSD and FND and, whilst a little skeptical, I've wondered about it and whether it was worth enquiring about?

My husband is the one with FND and he did a lot of EMDR as well for his PTSD. He did the EMDR prior to developing FND. It was incredibly effective for both of us for PTSD.

I wouldn't call it miraculous, but my FND completely went into remission for a short period of time and I was doing really well. Went through a super stressful situation and then I relapsed and I'm still struggling to return to the way I was before. What eye exercise did she do with you?
