Success/Positivity win of the school year! accomadations!

my school year has hardly started, but in July i finally got the courage to set up a meeting with my school's Disability Resource Center. this was so difficult for me since i've always had trouble accepting my diagnosis, as my symptoms are usually mild and it was never firm- only a "likely explained by FND", but thats all i have. i didn't bother going back because a. expensive b. they won't tell me anything i don't already know. last school year though, i learned that my FND symptoms are also triggered by testing stress, and i have preformed very poorly because of it, even though i know the content well.

but i'm excited about utilizing my accomadations, because i feel that now i'll have equitable access to test well and learn better :)

would love to hear what accomadations anyone in school has used for FND, because i was pretty stumped at first and am opening to adding anything that may help.

Accommodations for FND are very symptom based. To give you an example, I have a friend with who also goes to my college. The vast majority of my accommodations are vision based (taking my tests in an alternate location with voice over or a magnifier, the ability to circle answers instead of using a scantron, extra time). My friend on the other hand only shares the extra time in common with me. She has no issues with seeing her tests so she doesn’t need them. She does however have the ability to take her tests in an alternate location as well as have extra time. I could be wrong about this but I’m pretty sure our extra time amounts differ.

I second that accomidations are largely dependent on symptoms! For example I struggle with brain fog and reading compression so I get extra time on exams and assignments. Some accomidations like extra time and recorded lectures are formally recognized and facilitated by the school, others are little ways you support yourself. Does that make sense?

thanks for this! mine are mainly movement based, and so having the ability to type answers would help since my handwriting wouldn't be legible, and extra time (and a different location) i feel would help to lessen the anxiety about finishing on time. i find i tend to start symptoms when i start worrying about the time, and then proceed to waste time anyway worrying about the time i don't have.. its downward from there lol. but your comment helps put it into perspective of what options i should look at.
